I was going to post this in the finds thread, but I decided that since I had multiple large pictures I would post it here instead. A local store near me had this sealed copy of Persona 2 for $69.99. I splurged on it, because I was kind of interested in it anyways. If its an actual sealed copy, I'd rather just sell it and pick up an open copy later on. Can you guys tell if this is an original seal or not? Pictures included.

Looks legit to me. I haven't seen any reseals that can get the folded corners on the wrapping like that. This might be one reprints amazon had a couple years back.

They reprinted it? Does that affect the value? Any idea how I would be able to tell?

Yeah. Right around time when the fan translation of Innocent Sin was released. I think the original release had the white sticker across the top like most games but don't take my word for it.

Now that I take a closer look at your pictures, the "used" price sticker is a little suspect. Can anyone confirm if resealers are able to make the sharp corners on the wrapping?

I know for a fact several retailers have Y Fold machines and use them on their used product. Microcenter does for sure and obviously, there are scammers on Ebay who have them as well. Y Fold is not proof that it's an original seal.

The place I bought it at wouldn't waste their time doing a reseal (the other 99% of their games are not sealed) and they don't price sealed vs. unsealed differently. So the worry is whether or not it was resealed at some point before. The sticker only says "used" because this place doesn't even deal with new games. Someone had to have traded this game in sealed (or "resealed").

The Amazon reprint which was released in 2008 was sealed in the same way as your copy, without the white strip on top. Having said that, there is really no way to know if your copy has been resealed or not given the current state of the art among scammers and resealers. Even if you had another known Amazon reprint copy, there is no guarantee that someone didn't simply use the same Y Fold design in the reseal.

The reprint was done by GQD. They redid a few games at the time, Persona 2, Saiyuki: Journey West, and one or two others that are slipping my mind at the time. The reason that there is no security seal is that Sony had stopped requiring them on new games, thus when the reprint was done, they could leave it off. It's most likely a sealed copy of the reprint, not a reseal. The contents are 100% the same between the printings.

Okay, given that it is likely a sealed copy of the reprint...what's it worth?

Not a lot. Last one on ebay ended at $81.00 so after ebay fees about what you paid (including taxes).

Didn't they also do Fatal Frame 1 & 2 and a couple of the SMT games?
