One of my local game stores has an Action Max system complete in the box, and I was wondering how collectable these are? What would be an acceptable price for this? If anyone has any information on this system, like how you would properly hook it up and how it works, I would appreciate it! Thanks

I have one, but to be honest I haven't ever played it. My wife got it for me for a birthday but I think she paid less than $25 in styrofoam but no actual box.

If it's $3 it might be worth it just to have for the heck of it. Otherwise not really. It was neat in the 80's when it came out because the graphics looked "real" but now it just looks cheesy. For example, what once looked like real fighter jets as a kid now looks like toy jets hanging from string.
As for setting it up, it's not that difficult. I remember explaining it on here once just from childhood memories.
Also, if you have a modern TV, it should work...you just may not want to stick the suction cup sensor to it.

So, like, you watch a VHS tape of a lowbudget action show, and you shoot at it and your score shows up on Action Max box and you hear some sound effects when you hit things in the headphones or the console's speaker. Being VHS of course you have absolutely no effect on the video and it's exactly the same every time so the only thing that's gamelike about it is the score. The videos are neat in cheesy way, though. It's certainly not worth playing, but it might be fun to have to watch the videos and as a collectible.

I don't know... I once overheard Joe himself extolling the virtues of Pops Ghostly!
