Hey, I just purchased a relatively cheap unboxed NTSC 10 Million Model ps1 with the controler recently and was wondering if the box is the same for all regions. If it is, I was thinking of picking up a PAL unit for the box. Anyone know?

I don't honestly know. They won't match for sure, due to the serial # sticker on the box denoting it as PAL (and with a different serial number). There could be different languages on the back of the PAL boxes as well. I'd leave your system alone, and look to use it as a spring board to getting a boxed one.

US units are very very rare (as you well know) and buying a PAL one, to try and strip it of its box and then resell that unit sans box I think would be a poor move.

10 Million what?

It's a Midnight Blue PSX. Only about 100 were made.

Fair enough, I wasnt sure if the box had a serial number as well, so in that case definately not. Thanks for the info!

Yeah I was thinking of using the system I have to help pay for a boxed one if one ever shows up. I guess thats really the only option.

Why would you think a pal one is any easier to get hold of ? i do have a boxed one, andi see there is a US one online now for 6k ( insane )..

I've seen a lot more european ones change hands, and frequently for stupidly low prices. Nicola once found one for ~$10

$10.. well that is stupidly low.. whats the story behind that? i guess unless you know what they are you dont think they are worth much more than a std PAL machine

I've seen PS1's in every colour of the rainbow. If I came across one of these I'd probably just assume it's another after market mod like the others.

Incorrect, there were 100 made for each region, so 300 in total.

Simply because they come up for sale much more often. I've seen far more PAL units than I have NTSC-U units, and i've been watching eBay and the like since 2004 for them.

It also helps that not all 100 US units were ever given out/away in the first place.
