So first off, will this play on an american system? And secondly, how rare is it, and what could I ask? I cannot find anyone to price compare on eBay. Also, wasn't it called the Megadrive up there? Ugh, so many questions.

It's called the Genesis up here and it plays the same games as the US systems, they're the same thing. Sonic 1 is dirt common, and worth around $1-$5. Locally there's sometimes people looking for Sonic games for the system and I can sell Sonic 1 and 2 for $5 each, they don't sell easily all the time but I'm not stuck with them like sports games which never sell at $1 each. I'd rather have extra Sonic games than generic Genesis games that nobody heard of.

1) US and Canadian Genesis consoles will play the same games.
2) Sonic 1 cart only is worth $1-2 IMO. It's the Combat or SMB/DH of Genesis games.

The only difference is our consoles are metric in Canada so if you measure the cart you will need an adapter to play it in a US system.

Also ABC is reversed on our controllers and XYZ was DEF on the 6 button controllers.

The Canadian Genesis or "Genesis 1-EH" as we liked to call them, were made out of back bacon and hockey pucks and contained extra circuitry to change any inserted game into an EA NHL hockey game. It also had a pull out cup holder for your Molson.

Other than that, our system was the same as yours ;)

I have a Canadian Sonic 1 cart and have never once measured it, so thankfully it still fits just fine in my US console.
