View Full Version : Emulators you can run on a jailbroken PS3? Anything really good yet?
My old roommate got one of those USB things for his PS3. The Jailbreaker dongle thing. I told him that he should try putting some emulators on there. I'm pretty sure there is a SNES emulator and a few other emulators that will run on a jailbroken PS3. The thing is, I'm not really up on what emulators are up and running on the PS3, and whether they are any good or not. I would think, eventually, it should have some of the best emulator support ever, because the PS3 should have enough power to run just about anything, but maybe that isn't the case. Ever since the days of the Xbox 1, I've been looking forward to the day when there is a console that can play PS1 and N64 games perfectly. Dreamcast emulation would be sweet too.

The current emulators that are available that I have tried are FCEU (great nes emu), SNES9x (great SNES emu), PCE EMU (a very good pc engine, pc engine cd emu), Mednafen (multi emu that supports GB, GBC, GBA, NES, SMS, GG, Genesis, PC Engine, and PC Engine CD, with more to follow), Nestopia (nes emu), Gambatte (GB, GBC emu), SCUMM (adventure emu's), and Final Burn Alpha (this is a working test release that is an arcade emulator that emulates CPS1, CPS2, CPS3, Cave, Neo Geo, Sega System 16, Toaplan, Taito, Psikyo 68EC020, megadrive, and other arcade systems).
There are some great homebrew available as well, and Doom was just ported over as well.

What about PS1 and PS2 emulation? Is there a way to put PS1 and PS2 games onto the internal hard drive and play them from there? It would be cool to put one's entire PS1 and PS2 game library on the hard drive and to not have to mess with disks anymore.

Yeah, the original Xbox was absolutely awesome for emulation. It couldn't do PS1 emulation quite right, and the emulation on N64 games was spotty, but everything else was very good.

I can't see why it couldn't run PS1 emulation with graphics acceleration? PS2 might be a stretch.

There are no PS1 or PS2 emulators yet. Realize that the PS3 jailbreaking/hombrew scene is very new. It is only about 2 1/2 months old. Emu's and homebrew are coming quickly, so stay tight and I'm sure there will be some great stuff soon.

i could not get final burn to work or load for that matter its the only thing i tried. i could wait for the other emu's to be perfected though.

I haven't tried this yet but apparently it runs at full speed. I guess it crashes when you go the XBM from rom selection screen, so only do it while you're in-game.

it will only be worthy when the psx emu upscales the games to 720p. hell 640 X 480 would be something with nice filtering,
like the vc n64 games on the wii,

They have already done so. The current PS3 Firmware is incompatible with Jailbreak. However, as usual, hackers are one step ahead and you can downgrade the PS3 for use.
I have a 60gb PS3, so I already have flawless Ps2 emulation natively, and I'm guessing Ps1 also. Once the homebrew scene starts to develop a little more, the PS3 could rival the Xbox in terms of functionality. It's an amazingly powerful console, and potentially could be the media box of our dreams.....

I'm hoping that sometime soon, that the PS3 will be able to run xbox360 games......kinda like the dreamcast could run ps1 games.
