So out of boredom I modified my Game Genie so could work in a Japanese Mega Drive. After doing this I remembered reading about how certain early release Genesis games also had the Japanese version still on the cart. I've only checked a few of my games but here's the ones that I've checked so far.

If anybody else has done this and wants to add games to the list please post about them.

Bio Ship Paladin
Bonanza Brothers
Columns
Cyberball
ESWAT: City Under Siege
Fatal Labyrinth
Final Zone
Fire Shark
Flicky
Forgotten Worlds
Gain Ground(JP)
Ghostbusters
Ghouls N Ghosts
Grind Stormer
Mercs
Midnight Resistance
Mystic Defender
Quackshot
Revenge of Shinobi
Streets of Rage
Streets of Rage 2
Thunder Force 2
Truxton
Twin Hawk

Bio Ship Paladin might be another one. I'm not too sure, but I recall that if the game is played on a US system, it plays in English, but when played on a Japanese console, it's in japanese. Not too sure, though.

You can add Mystic Defender to the list.

It's based on the Peacock King Anime (which is excellent btw). If played on a US system the main characters sprite is changed to a ninja type outfit, but when played on a Japanese system he is downing his original Buddhist robe. There are some other differences as well.

I wrote an article about this for my old OPCFG site years ago, after playing around with the settings on a Magic Key III converter. Here's some of the ones I confirmed that haven't been listed yet:

Truxton
Thunder Force II
ESWAT: City Under Siege
Final Zone
Forgotten Worlds
Flicky
Midnight Resistance

Thanks for the additions guys. I added a note with Bio Ship Paladin since that ones a maybe.I can confirm it is not a maybe. It does change, and vice versa with the Japanese release - Uchuu Senkan Gomora.

There's also Grind Stormer which will boot into V-Five on a MegaDrive and vice versa. Of course, the region(version) is selectable in game too which is a rare exception.

I recently imported some Japanese MD games so while I've got the formula backwards, I think the results may still be the same. Gain Ground boots up as the U.S. region game on a U.S. Genesis with a Renovation games copyright at the title screen. I'd assume that the U.S. version probably has the Japanese version on it should you boot it up on a Japanese Mega Drive.
