Upon searching, I couldn't locate a dedicated Steam thread, so let's start one now dammit! List any and all awesome Steam deals here!

This whole week Steam has been discounting the shit out of their games. Each day brings completely new sales, with tomorrow (11/29) being the final day. Today, among many other sales, you can pick up The Orange Box for only $7.50!! If you've been waffling on grabbing that (like me), now's your chance! But check it out...there are plenty of other great titles on sale too.

Today/Tonite's notable sales:

Left 4 Dead 2 - $4.99
Shatter - $2.50

I'm waiting for the 1st L4D game to be on sale since I've never played it, so I passed on the sequel (I strictly adhere to playing shit in order), but I decided to try out Shatter because the trailer sold me on it. I'm glad that I did! An awesome Arkanoid/Breakout update, with some cool powerups, a local co-op mode and a fantastic electro soundtrack! Check it out!

By all accounts, L4D2 is pretty much just an "expansion" for the first L4D ; you lose nothing by skipping out on the first one, really.

Shatter is pretty cool, but attempting to achieve the insane requirement of the current "Treasure Hunt" challenge - 11.2 million points in Bonus mode - is really ruining the experience.

Hey, Bionic Commando is $13 and BC: Rearmed is $6. I know that Arkham Asylum is on sale too, but I don't remember the price right now...

Kitsune Sniper

Arkham Asylum is $15 right now. I'm waiting to see if it'll go even lower.

Also, I got BC:Rearmed as a gift a while back. I don't want to pay $13 for BC alone, so I'm also waiting for another price drop. Too bad I don't own a 360, or I could just buy the damn game for $5 or so. :P

Uh, what kind of game is it?

Third person WWII shooter where you're a sniper (well 3rd person when you're running around, 1st person when you snipe). Gets pretty gory too - lots of slow motion bullet cams with exploding heads and brains. Played thru the Xbox version when it came out and loved it. You can even play the PC version online too.

Then again, this is the company that gave away one of their flagship titles away completely for free (i.e. Portal).

Ok need to spend less now. Sure ME 1 has been on sale for $5 before but I missed that and still don't have it. So I picked up..

Mass Effect 1 & 2
Patriarch IV (looks like an old game I used to play on Dos, Machiavelli the Prince)
Silent Hunter V (I've been wanting to see the graphics on this one)
Wings of Prey (Has the worst DRM on Steam and only 3 activations but for $6 it's worth the rental I guess)

So Capcom pulled a dick move today.

Devil May Cry 4 was $5 for a couple of hours... and then they raised the price to $10. I thought these specials were supposed to last all day. Fuck 'em. :(

Same thing happened with the Valve pack at the beginning of the sale. Was $25 for the Valve complete pack but then went up to $50! Kicking myself for not getting it at $25.

Todays buys were:
-Overlord
-Torchlight
-King Arthur

To be honest I'm not a huge fan of console games that get ported to the PC. The Mass Effect series seems ok though.

Love space games so I picked up the X superbox deal today. I really was wanting Dragon Age... but $25 for the complete edition is a bit too much. I highly doubt I would get around to playing it before it drops to $10 during the summer sale anyway. Heck I might not even get around to playing it till the next Christmas sale!

There is going to come a day where the console makers are going to wonder "Where did all the gamers go?"

I must say, the Serious Sam HD discount looks very appealing - bloody $3.99. I'm really tempted to get this as it's likely another year before its this cheap again.

Kitsune Sniper
12-27-2010, 04:07 PM
The only reason I didn't buy that is that I got them as part of a trade with a guy from Russia on the Steam forums.

And I already own the original games via retail releases.

Just bought Mirror's Edge (75% off) and Shatter (50% off) for $5 each. I already had Mirror's Edge on the 360, but somehow first-person games just feel "right" on the PC.

When is Steam going to give us a deal on extra time during a day to play all these games? That's what I'd like to know.

Just going to point out that Magnetis (http://store.steampowered.com/app/37500) is only 37 pence. Fun game, with very awesome music.I was kind of wondering about that one. There is still such a thing as shovelware, after all.

I can't recall anyone ever spontaneously gifting me something until this sale. It is an unfamiliar experience. I suppose I should pay it forward, but I can't seem to find any reasonably-priced games in the wishlists of my "friends". (That's what wishlists are for, right?)

fahlim003
12-29-2010, 11:22 PM
I got the Quake collection for 10 bucks. Not a bad deal :)It'd be good if there was still a good number of online matches without mods. Having said that and given the present circumstances are not the case (pardon Q3 to some degree) it's a fair price for the SP aspect(s) alone. Add a healthy MP scene and if I didn't already own all the games it'd be a worthy purchase in my case.

Kitsune Sniper

Shatter is now $2.50 today. F.

I'm still waiting for the Orange Box to plummet, but I know they'll probably wait until the last day of the sale (if at all) to do that.

Kitsune Sniper
12-30-2010, 02:58 PM
So yesterday I bought Amnesia: The Dark Descent, The Ball, Frozenbyte Collection (Shadowgrounds, Shadowgrounds: Survivor, Trine), and Kane and Lynch 2 DLC - Doggie Bag (bunch of multiplayer maps... eh, $3 wasn't that bad, but $1.49 / .99 for weapons and masks on their own was pretty stupid.)

And today, I got Arcadia, it's a simple WASD+Mouse shooter that's similar to Geometry Wars, but it does its own thing. It's pretty simple and fun and the dev is adding tons content and improving the engine all the time.

And really, it wasn't even $2. I figured the game would be decent, and it is. :)

Guess what? I've been waiting for them to lower the price on that goddamn thing since the summer sale. I got Rearmed as a gift but wouldn't buy the two pack because it was more expensive.

So now? Now I own Bionic Commando.

I also bought a KenKen puzzle game called "Everyday Genius: SquareLogic", and HL2 Episodes 1+2 as a gift for a friend who's probably still asleep from New Year's. :P

Tell me something I don't know. Even when I bought it new, I thought 128mb was ridiculously low for a new video card. TF2 system requirements said I should be able to handle it though.

Video settings are already as low as they'll go too. Getting a new Mac soon anyway, so I'll just wait until then to play.

Hey, my PC has an integrated 128mb card (I know, yikes) and TF2 runs about 55-60fps at almost the max settings. It's dual-core processor clocks in at 2.93ghz, so that probably compensates somewhat.

Yeah, my Mac is just a 2.16ghz dual core, so that's going to slow it down.

I actually tweaked the settings a bit more and it's a bit easier to play now. Render settings are grayed-out though. Kinda choppy but definitely playable at least. I need to upgrade to a new setup soon.

My TF2 buddies have said that a good CPU can be just as helpful as a good video card when it comes to TF2, so... I'm playing the game with a GeForce 8400 GS, which is kinda crappy, and I sometimes get awesome frame loss (2 FPS!). I think it also has to do with the drivers you're using... dunno if there's newer ones out there, man. :(
