Flip over an Xbox, and take a good look at that sticker near where A/V cable goes in. Unless torn off or otherwise defaced you can't miss it. The mfg date is clearly printed.

A bare system is enough. Cables not necessary. Exterior wear fine. Only has to work 100% correct. Free of disc read error or other issues.

I don't mind slow service/shipping. Not like the speed affects much how well it'll run.

BTW please refrain from modding discussion in this topic. It may be popular among other Xbox owners, but has no relevance to my purchase. Thanks.

What's so special about the older Xbox's? I thought the more current the firmware, the better.

Generally. Except they broke 480p for a handful of games in the final hardware revision.

Besides while my spare Xbox is 2002, it has DRE issues and should be replaced. Buying another isn't much more than it'd cost to send that in for repair. I don't even know of people who still fix the Xbox anyway.

No idea where to get an Xbox repaired either? That'd solve the problem as well, you know.

If you're getting DREs why simply try and get a replacement DVD drive. I know very little about the process but I know of a friend who did it upon buying a cheap 2nd-hand Xbox and had no issues swapping out the drives with success.

Used Xboxes in the condition I want are so cheap buying only a drive doesn't make fiscal sense.
