I just ordered a PHD-00010 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16874103190&Tpk=N82E16874103190) MS 360 Wireless N adapter. Right after, I realized that i don't remember seeing a 360 in their house. They may be trying to go wireless with an old XBOX (I've seen that in their house.). Anybody know if this will work if they do happen to have an old XBOX?

I don't think it will. They did have a wireless kit for the old Xbox that would work with the 360 but as far as I know none of the 360 ones will work with the old one since they power off of USB and IIRC the one that they offered for the old box had an ethernet port and was powered by a wall wart.

I'm not even sure what the point would be at this point anyway. There's nothing you can really do online with the original Xbox anymore.

Thanks, Bill. The discontinuation of original XBOX Live support had slipped my mind.

If you've modded the console, hooking it up to your home network can still be useful for it's media extender capabilities for streaming videos and such.

Does that mean that the old Xbox wireless adaptors will work with the 360? There's a brand new one here at a local gaming store for $25, sure beats paying $60+ for the 360 version.

May want to do your homework and be sure that you wouldnt rather have the newer wireless N one. Not sure if it offers lower latency, but it's something to consider.

Unless you have a wireless N router it wouldn't matter would it?

In theory it could still be better or worse. Latency doesn't have anything to do with N or G. I'm just speaking in general. Of the two adapters, one may offer better performance. Based on the articles I've found within the last five minutes, there is no difference in latency. Speaking in general, again, N is better for some people. Just so long as you don't share the router with non-N devices, you can transmit on the 5ghz freq. Shorter range but the signal can blast through more objects. Also on the 5ghz freq, you'll have less interference. Seems everything these days transmits on the 2.4ghz freq.

BUT...you're obviously trying to save a buck, so it sounds like the old G one would be fine. Hell, if N doesn't have anything to offer you then just go with what works. G seems fine to me.
