Hello there, I have a playstation 1 modded to play backup disc but I was wondering if it enabled the system to play imported game (PAL, J-NTSC) game too without swapping.

Thanks

J-NTSC yes.

In my experience, PAL games no. They'll boot but the mod won't do anything about the video output. You'll need an external PAL to NTSC signal converter.

Though, I once used a Game Shark code on a PAL copy of of Resident Evil Survivor (the PAL version actually had Guncon support) to get the PAL output to run NTSC. I remember the code was game-specific and I couldn't use them on any other PAL PS1 game. I can't for the life of me find those codes online anymore.

So, there may be similar options to get a Gameshark to tell your PS1 to run the game that's booting in NTSC output if available.

thansk for the quick answer!

I wanted to import Mortal Kombat 2 for the psx, that was only realised in Japan for unknown reason (This game was made by an american company, but japan only, wtf?)

Unless you're getting it for collecting, I wouldn't bother. It's not a very good port, and Mortal Kombat Trilogy has all of the MKII characters anyway, doesn't it?

MK2 on the PSX was terrible - I've played it quite a bit. It's essentially the Saturn version with minor extra problems.

If you need MK2 on a Sony machine, just buy the PSN version on PS3. It's the arcade rom.

Homebrew program called Import Loader has a PAL/NTSC selector, but unless the game itself has a screen adjustment setting a small portion of the top or bottom of the screen may be cut off.

If you have the ability to boot CD-R's, you can boot this program.

Beside having a physical copy of that port, MK2 is really good on the PSX. I don't really see why people hate this port, it is a very nice one. I played this in past on a bootleg CD.

Also, I would like to have all the mortal kombat game (and ports) that existed

Downloading MK2 on the PSN Store is against my collection, it is not a physical game like Midway Arcade Treasure 2 on the PS2

Mortal Kombat trilogy is not the same as Mortal Kombat 2, there is alot of difference. MKT play much more like MK3 and UMK3

The PSX and MAT2 ports are both botched in some way or another. I admit that I'm basing my opinion on the PSX port on my experience with the dreadful Saturn game, but by all accounts it's just as bad. The MAT2 MKII is full of glitches, mostly small things like missing shadows and audio glitches, but there's also the fact that the pause menu interferes with some of the secret tricks you could do in the arcade version, making them impossible.
If you're dead set on a physical copy, then SNES or 32X are the way to go, despite the lower graphical quality.

with my experience with modded PAL systems it really depends on the chip

i've had modded systems that:
- can only play the same region copies
- can play other region games, but not in full color
- can do everything (including making your homework;))

I don't think NTSC consoles can output a proper PAL signal. I have some PAL games, a Pal capable monitor, and a modded NTSC PSX, and I was never able to get it working properly. The image is always either not centered properly, or the colors are messed up.
