Recommend me a good fighter game.

Okay, so I want to pick up a new fighter, but I seriously haven't played one since soul caliber 2. What are the best games out there. I keep looking at tekken and sc4 are there any other good ones with a learning curve so you cant just mash buttons. What are your guys opinions?

Sounds like you're looking for something modern, If you do enjoy Tekken, Tekken 6 is a lot of fun. Beautiful graphics, very large roster, lots of enhancements to unlock/buy for characters, and probably the best online play the series has seen.

If you want a fighter with a serious learning curve with very distinct tiers between amateur and pro level player - Super Street Fighter IV would be it.

I personally did not enjoy Soul Calibur IV, while the graphics were nice, I think the series has gotten a bit slow, stiff and unbalanced since the Dreamcast game (which is still my favorite).

I'd say Tekken 6 or Super Street Fighter 4.

Both good choices also if you're into online play, as you'll have no problem finding someone to play in each.

Virtua Fighter 5, Dead or Alive 4, and Jump Ultimate Stars are my favorites this gen.

I would also have to recommend Virtua Fighter 5.

It's easily my favorite fighting game series and Virtua Fighter 5 is by far the best installment since Virtua Fighter 2. It has great graphics, AWESOME music, and plays beautifully. There has never been a better time to jump into the series.

I would recommend BlazBlue Continuum Shift. It is the best 2d fighter I have played in a while.

Wow so many options, thanks for all the input. I will probably stay away from soul caliber 4 then. The only reason I bought 2 was because of my man crush on Link.
