Here's the deal. I'm still monkeying with different medias and whatnot, but:
I have a freshly modded 1.0 xbox with a thomson. I put in a xecuter2.6CE, flashed with a modified xecuter bios(FrostyTheSnowMan's vga bios, as my only option is VGA) which works fine. Actual games *will* load and shockingly a DVD+R of RTCW.
Sadly, I can't for the life of me at this point get a god-damn dashboard installed. every CDR and DVD+R I throw at it that i have is unrecognised.
I seem to remember when I modded 2 xboxes 4 years ago, I stuck the HDDs into my computer to install a dashboard. I can't find any information on it though...anyone happen to know how you do that?

What are you using to build your xbox iso? Something like qwix? You also need to rename your dashboard xbe to "default.xbe" before you build it. Make sure the dash config file is setup properly for ftp beforehand. That should be enough to get you going and then just ftp the dashboard files (using original name) to the right spot.

i was using Craction. i renamed the dashboard to default, edited the ini, AND added a dummy file. no luck.

I thought the xecutors had an ftp mode on the chip. Hmm.

Did you try downloading one of the auto-installers? Maybe that will do the trick. I remember being able to format the hdd by hooking it up to a computer, but not doing any file manipulation.
