I cant wait for this game. Its final fantasy 4 and after years, plus a whole new scenerio to tie the two games together.

http://www.siliconera.com/2010/12/17/a-closer-look-at-final-fantasy-iv-complete-collection/

Heres some pics from siliconera.com that show the original vs new high res.

"Yes, there is another remake of Final Fantasy IV, but this is different from the Nintendo DS remake Square Enix released just two years ago. Final Fantasy IV Complete Collection packs Final Fantasy IV and Final Fantasy IV: The After Years, a direct sequel starring Cecil’s son Ceodore, on to one UMD with high resolution graphics."

Looks nice, but man, I already own three versions of the game (SNES, GBA, DS). Talk about flogging a dead horse.

In fairness, the inclusion of FFIV: The After Years is pretty cool. Worth the re-re-re-re-purchase IMO.

I knew holding off on the Wii versions would pay off!

The Final Fantasy Series is a very guilty culprit when it comes to sequels, spinoffs, and remakes. I think I stopped staying caught up with the release of Final Fantasy X-2 years ago. While I applaud that the PSP is still coming out with some titles, I have to say that Final Fantasy needs to go away for a couple years so that it can recharge it franschise as a whole. At some point, people are just get overwhelmed with the mass volume of releases, and underwhelmed with the quality of titles that have checkered this franschise as a whole.

I have to disagree with the underlying premise of your whole statement. You talk as if gamers are required to buy each and every Final Fantasy release. Most people buy the entries they want and skip the ones they don't. It's only possible to be "overwhelmed with the mass volume of releases" if you choose to be.

As far as being "underwhelmed with the quality" of past games in the franchise...that is definitely the minority opinion. Everyone has their personal FF dislikes, but overall Final Fantasy has been the most consistently diverse, high-quality franchise in video game history.

Same here. I own for SNES, PSX, GBA, and DS. The PSP being my favorite portable and that I'm a fanboy of the series I'm definitely going to buy it, especially since it comes with extra content plus the content only available on the Wii. Since I own so many versions of the same game it's not going to be a day one purchase, though. I'll wait until I see it for a sale price or the innevitable PSP game price drop.

I do hope FF4 Complete is based on the GBA version of FF4 though. No, not all the bugs, glitches, lag, etc. Seriously. FF4 for the GBA is terrible. The PAL version has no lag during visual attacks, but it does have button lag whenever choosing your attack options. What I'd like to see on FF4 Complete is all of the extra content added onto the GBA that allows you to switch your characters out at the end of the game. Final Fantasy Anniversary had all the dungeons from Dawn of Souls so I hope the PSP version of FF4 does also.

I forgot to mention in my post that the After Years would be given a graphical overhaul and tweaked storywise to better fit in with the new graphics of FFIV.

I bought this game for the snes, psx, wonderswan, gba, and ds. Having said that I will definatley buy this for my PSP as its my most played system, and is fast becoming my favorite.
Ill buy it because it brings something new to the table, and i adore high res overhauls of one of my favorite games. Id love to see ffv and ffVI done in the same manner. and ill buy it on day one at full retail to support it.

As a die-hard FFIV fan, THIS is the version I've been wanting all these years.

No 3D with crappy voice acting, and Paladin Cecil looking more feminine than the entire female case.

I'd buy it only if they replace The After Years with my time traveling sequel to FF4 called Final Fantasy X (Ex): The War of Time involving Cecil and Rosa's twin children...

...or they could just fix TAY's battle system so the enemies don't get 3-4 attacks before you get in one and also decrease the number of battles from point A to point B.

I'm still curious as to when they'll do anything with the PSX trilogy. I just want FFIX to get the respect and attention it deserved.

After Crisis Core I've really been interested in having an FF7 remake while prior I haven't had an interest at all. They have an amazing looking graphics engine. If only Square Enix would remake FF7 with those graphics and less CG I'm sure the entirety of FF7 could fit on a single UMD. I'm sure we'll see it on the PS4 and/or XBOX 1080 in about 10 or so years.

Like Exit though, I'm also interested in seeing a remake of FF6 the most.

Oh Great! Im sooooo excited to replay a game I already replayed before in a previous remake. Instead remaking something people want like ff 5 or 6 we are treated to another Final fantasy 4 remake Huzzah.................. (groan). I swear im going to leave a bag of burning poo on their hq doorstep someday if I take a trip to japan.

Can't check the link, but I'm guessing this is about the "Complete Collection"?

I'm actually excited for this one, as I didn't want to do DLC for The After Years content. So this actually works out nicely for me :)

But yeah, bring on a remake of FF6!

Interesting, I dont know why but this reminds me of a FF interview I read years ago [in Next generation magazine I believe]. At that time the Ps2 was still new and there were rumors of FF 5-7 3d remakes brewing for the Ps2, one of the FF producers was being interviewed and he was asked outright if they would ever do multiple remakes of older games [FF 7 and older]. He flat out said no, the closest to a remake we will see from Square is direct-unaltered ports to other systems and thats it. Since doing remakes would take up man-power from their "real" job which is making new games [that is going off memory but is basically what he said].

Of course, that was years ago and here we are today staring at what is likely the 5th or 6th remake of FF IV. And there are rumors that FF 7 is "finally" going to be remade on the PS3. Times have changed for sure, but having played some of Square's recent releases [since FFX] I cant help but feel but that they did detour along the way, caving in to pressure for ports is one indicator, and their game quality isnt what it used to be.

Intresting! I love comparisons :)

Anyway I hate FF4, Square is eating crap latly and needs to work on something that's more in demand.. Say FF6, FF7, or FF8 remake? Better yet just finish versus. Yesh

I hear you there. Actually, every gamer in the world hears you. It seems S-E are the only people in the world who DON'T. FF13 was the worst 1-player FF since... well, ever, and yet instead of making an HD remake of 7, we get FFXIII-2 instead, since direct sequels worked so well last time with FFX-2.

I'm gonna call it right here- FFIV will get yet another remake on the 3DS, advertised as 'FFIV 3D'.

I'm picking it up once it hits $20 or less. I'm glad we're getting it since FF4 is a good game and we're getting it with the After Years for the PSP, but I own this game for the SNES, PSX, GBA, and DS already, so I can wait.

pfffffffffffffffffffffff, more FF remakes !?!?!??!? .....

they should create new games, they have an amazing studio filled with very talented people, why just keep remaking the same game over and over and over and over and over !!!!!!!!!!???? :deadhorse:

no wonder why S-E is not in my AAA list anymore

In their defense, they have or will be releasing at least a couple of new games in the next month for the PSP including Lord of Arcana and 3rd Birthday. Sure, they also are releasing this FFIV remake, a Dissidia follow-up which is basically a slightly revised version of the previous game and Tactics Ogre which is another remake, but you can always skip those three.

I was on Amazon and decided to just click on this and read the description.

"Bonus Features That Fans Demand: Original SNES soundtrack, an all-new intro movie and cinematic CGI sequences from previous release, and a monster encyclopedia that covers details of over 300 enemies are all included within the game"

Original SNES soundtrack as well as the remade soundtrack is a nice feature(switchable in game?,) CGI sequence from previous release sounds like the DS CGI sequences, but could also include the garbage PSX CGI(nostalgia ftw?) and over 300 enemies seems like maybe we'll get additional dungeons added. I hope we get the GBA dungeons in higher quality.

Found out about this and immediately started replaying FF4A. I'm excited, because I came very close to buying After Years a few times.

On the subject of FF6 remakes, though 6 was by no means unpopular in Japan, it seems a lot more popular here in the states. It's part of that crop of SNES RPGs that introduced a lot of console kiddies such as myself to the genre, along with Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Secret Of Mana, and Super Mario RPG.

It doesn't get as many remakes because Japan LOVES FF4. When Famitsu held a poll to decide the greatest games of all time back in 2006, FF4 was #6 on the list. The only FF games that placed higher were 7 (#2) and 10 (#1). 6 was #25, below every other FF in the core series besides 1 and 2.

Maybe I am just a hypocrite because I purchased the Tactics Ogre for PSP ....

My only problem is that one remake or port of a game is not enough for SquareEnix ... they just keep doing it 3 or 4 times, they should stop doing that !!

I already played 3rd Birthday and is not superb but is not bad. I don't have a problem with sequels, it felt great to play that game after many years of hoping for Parasite Eve 3, but they have the capacity to develop more than just ports, remakes or updates from successful games ...
