I'm glad that this game came out and I can't wait to try the online multiplayer feature on the 360 version, but I do have a couple of questions pertaining to the XBLA version:

1. Can more than one local player join an online multiplayer game?
2. If so, must both local players have an Xbox Live Gold account?

And on a more general level, what are the best characters to play?

Haven't purchased this yet but there's an X-Men thread in another forum I visit. Here's what someone said about the characters:

X-Men Arcade Tiers List

God Tier
-------
Storm (end of 6p game, my storm had close to 300 kills, dazzler had 180ish and no one else broke 150)

Upper Tier
---------
Wolverine (fast, good special, but not as much range or height as storm's)
Dazzler (good, but really insanely slow getting her special out)

Mid Tier
--------
Colossus (so slow god damn it's like run out of super and just crawl)
Nightcrawler (may be god tier on 4p cabinet style)

Shit Tier
--------
Cyclops (who plays this asshole)

Colossus is broke as shit if you want to rack of kills. His special has ridiculous range immediately around him, whereas most characters just hit in front of them.

Answers to your questions.

1. Yes, they can. I had three accounts online at the same time.
2. No, they can be guest accounts as well Silver accounts will not though.

Does not really matter who you play, since continues are unlimited, even on Expert. Just spam your mutant power, die, repeat. Somehow, the game still manages to be fun.

I'm down for running through this game anytime, still need 3 achievements (is it just me or are some of them horribly glitched?) so send me a FR.

If you plan on playing local multiplayer, I've heard the PSN version is the one to get because you can attach six controllers, vs. only 4 on XBLA.

I played the demo for this last night and was disappointed that Dazzler was the only selectable character. She played ok though and I cleared the first level. This game would probably be most fun when playing over XBL with a bunch of friends since it's very repetitive, like most arcade games from the 90's.

This game hasn't aged nearly as well as The Simpsons Arcade or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I remember it being a whole lot better than this, then again it was always that 6 player cabinet that was so attractive, without it it isn't nearly the same.

I don't remember the game being so short.

Fun as ever, but online is just a mutant power spam party.

Word. AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!

Although, if there were ever a side scrolling beat-em-up that could commit homicide to your fire button of choice, that game would be it.
