So 2010 was another shitty year in general, but a great year for gaming (some fantastic releases).
So what are your goals for 2011? Did you make your goals for 2010?
Me? I came shy of my 20000 gamerscore goal, and I barely even scratched my DC collection. I only added about 15-20 games and I still need like 180. So while I accomplished other stuff, my gaming goals came a bit short.

No, no... definitely didn't meet my gaming goals. I completed a small portion, but none of them were the RPGs on my short-list of must-beat-before-I-die games. After the epic Persona 3 I decided I needed another year off from super long jrpgs. I did, however, beat a good deal of the games I purchased this year.
Ironically I've wasted (invested?) countless hours playing Phantasy Star Online recently, after getting in touch with some individuals I used to battle alongside back in the day. I've beaten this hundreds of times.
My goals for 2011:
Beat at least 4 lengthy jrpgs from my backlog, let's say: Skies of Arcadia, FFVI, Persona 4, Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door
Beat Sonic Chronicles, a game I bought and played once for ten minutes.
Beat both Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow and Portrait of Ruin
Beat 4 of the virtual console games I've d/led so far
Complete 20 other games + whatever new games I add for this coming year
Eventually I'd at least like to have 2/3 of my collection beaten/completed/whatever.

1.) Get to level 50 in Battlefield Bad Company 2/Vietnam.
2.) Finish Final Fantasy XIII and Valkyrie Chronicles.
3.) Actually opening and playing the Wii games I buy.
4.) Seeing how many hours I can accumulate in Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim before the end of the year.

I didn't meet any of mine from last year, since I was unable to access most of my collection. I will have no gaming resolutions for next year either, since I am actually thinking of selling all my stuff to fund my future career in film making. It is sad really, but I am sure most of you will get some good deals next year when I start selling off my collection.

Get all the green stars in Super Mario Galaxy 2 (i got, like 7 then thought 'sod it')
Hit 27500 gamerscore
Finish off that 11th playthrough of FFVII I abandoned about 2 years ago... then watch AC:complete on blu-ray
Source an original Xbox which has been modified to play ROMs (must be a PAL one if anyone out there can help)
1000/1000 Fallout New Vegas
Get good enough at Rock Band 3 pro drums to be able to consistently 5-star songs on expert
Collecting-wise:
Hit 1800 games total (currently 1612) and 1600 physical titles (currently 1459)
Get into double figures for games for all Atari systems I own
Get up to 20 NES games owned (currently 9... and before you ask, I was always a Sega boy in my youth)
On that note, get up to 50 games owned for every Sega console bar the Mega CD/32X (9 needed for SMS, 4 needed for Saturn and 24 needed for Game Gear)
Doable. Maybe.

Gaming wise:
- Clear my DS backlog. Too many games just sitting right near the end.
- Make some real progress in Little King's Story. It's too good to just leave there.
- Finally complete Star Ocean 2. (Level grinding is dull, and the second disc is so boring in comparison to the first)
Collecting wise:
- Complete my Shining Force Japanese collection (5 games to go)
- Make some serious progress on my DC/NGPC collection
- Buy a 3DS
- Buy Zelda:SS on launch day
- Buy a PS3
Yeah... gonna be an expensive year!

Gaming goals... hmmmmm
not really sure i beat fallout new vegas?
beat the new alice game when it comes out
and a few others.. nothing really exciting
Collecting wise.. Very very expensive year
(on top of the fact i am paying for body work and new stylish paint job for my subaru along with new rims and sound system!
and buying a surround sound system setup for my tv
and building a new computer!)
I am in hope of purchasing a stores worth of vintage games literally piece by piece by spring of 2012. So alot of rummaging going on in 2011 at thrift stores and good will stores and scanning craigslist and such.
i travel alot in the summer so it will make things interesting to say the least.

I really only have one goal for 2011, buy a Japanese 360 so I can play all the region locked import shmups I've been accumulating. I can't keep depriving myself of enjoying Ketsui and DoDonPachi: Daifukkatsu.

To buy games that are only CIB ones. And they have to be games I like or care about. My ultimate goal is to replace my current loose cart/disc collection with CIB ones and readjust my shelf setup to compliment this. I finally have a job so I can finally move forward.
My other goal is to not move forward in my collecting too fast. I need money for many other things in life now that I have goals. Not just games. I have many different plans to make sure I stick to it.
I should also only buy a few games at a time at max so that I have time to play through and appreciate each. This will also give me the chance to go back and replay games I know I enjoyed before.
I already do have quite a set of CIB games so while I initially make money I should probably play those again and some of them for the first time.
Then here comes my plan for buying games I have never played before - try them out in an emulator or see a video of it first if possible. I will educate myself for new purchases. If I can't beat a game using an emulator only doing savestates at beginnings of levels and it still frustrates me, or it's not fun enough, then it does not deserve a box and manual on my shelf. just a cartridge or disc in slim case. but if I didn't like it that much in the first place I pretty much won't buy it because that money will go toward the next real game I do want

-Platinum Yakuza 3. There's only a few more mini games to master and a few more quests to do. I don't like trophies to begin with so don't care to get a platinum unless I really enjoy the game.
-Start more games I've yet to open/play, finish more games I haven't finished.
-Pick up Ys1 and 2, Legend of Heroes releases, Yakuza 4, and Test Drive Unlimited 2 on day one.
-Participate in Secret Santa for the first time.

I already have a pretty specific idea of what I'd like to add to my collection this year.
Games: 2 for PS2, 1 PSX, 1 SNES, 3 Genesis, 3 NES, 1 PSP, 1 DS, 5 for Wii
and 1 Virtual Console, 2 WiiWare if those count.. So 20 total.

I've been thinking about this a little the last couple days, just deciding what direction I want to take my collection in. I'm going to try to focus a little more on just a handful of systems, but that won't stop me from grabbing something at random because I find a good price or find something you don't see in the wild too often.
Collecting Goals
- 30 Gameboy Games (Currently 13)
- 15 Wonderswan Games (Currently 4)
- 20 PSP Games (Currently 9)
- 2 new consoles
- 2 new handhelds (totally forget about the 3DS)
Gaming Goals
- Get and keep my backlog completion over 50%
- Beat at least 10 RPGs
Also considering doing a little PS1 collecting, probably starting with the long box games.

- Acquire a Dreamcast and Turbo Grafx 16
- 100 Genesis games (Currently at 53)
- 100 Atari 2600 games (Currently at 78)
- Get Dragon Warrior 2, 3, and 4 for NES
- 10 Famicom games (Currently at 1)
- Possibly see about getting boxes and manuals for my NES collection

My goals are pretty easy:
* Atari 7800 (for a "good" price)
* Sega CD (snagged one the other day, hopefully I can make it work)
* One of those SD card things for C64. Yeah it's not "collecting" but I still want one.
I would also like to build a countertop MAME cabinet, re-using as many materials as I can. The reason for countertop is mainly so I can use scrap wood, 19" or better CRT (cheap!), and the limited space means I will not feel obligated to include 25 buttons, 3 joysticks, 2 sizes of trackball, spinners, flipper buttons, and whatever else for all 10 players. I figure I can get away with running "the classics" on a hand-me-down PC. It will not be super-deluxe, but the cost of having a more versatile cabinet is the reason I have not built one already.

I haven't been here long enough to now if this is a regular question that comes up, but it's a really good one.
I never really had any collecting goals (well, not since several years ago), but since I plan on spending very little money next year, not just on games, but in general, it's probably a good idea to have a plan.
I think my main collection goal is going to be to complete the second half of my attic gameroom. It's two connected rooms (shotgun style), but I only have the larger back area utilized for gaming. My space has been pretty much maxed out, so I need to built shelves in the first area to house games, and also get a decent CRT for my older games and systems. The focus is going to be much older games (Atari 2600 to 8-bit era), but I'm sure I'll end up playing most of my past generation games in there too, since you can't beat a CRT for standard definition gaming.
I do want a 25 Anniversary Mario DSXL and Wii, but I'm almost sure that I'll receive each as gifts at some point next year. Perhaps in my Easter Basket, until the wife has picked another theme.
I'll have to think if there are any specific games or hardware that I plan on purchasing this year though. I usually just wing it, and collect things as I happen upon them. I ONLY collect games and hardware that I want though. Unless you're a completionist (which I'm not at all), or a reseller, I really don't see the point in acquiring games you don't care to play.

I want an Apple II, probably GS and some games. Would also like an AMIGA.
I may be able to complete some collections (Sega CD, Atari Lynx). I do not need many TG-16 games, but I need the expensive ones so I would like to get a couple of the $100+ games).
I wouls also like to add to my SNES collection...I have been holding back on this one for no good reason.
Xbox games are fairly cheap so I will likely buy bunches of them.
Also, looking to buy a house 1/2 way into the year so a new gameroom will be a big deal.

-Sell/trade some games in my collection that I don't like.
-Add atleast one PSX game to my collection.
-Add atleast three PS2 games to my collection.
-Add atleast two PS3 game to my collection.
-Add atleast five PSP game to my collection.
There aren't many PSX and PS2 games I'm interested in getting so my collection for both is almost complete.

Since, for the most part, I'm done with the systems I mostly collect for, ( although there's always something to find :D ) I might try to acquire a good working Colecovision. I've had several in the past but they've all had hardware issues. The coming year I might save up and get one of the refurbished units from one of the reputable users at Atariage or other forums who specialize in restoring the CV.

I really admire everyone who undertakes this kinda stuff. It has to be so much work.
I want Penn & Teller so bad, I have burnt that game so many times I could fill a VW with all the bad burns. One day someone will release this or put it out. I know there is even the artwork floating around.

I've been spending the waning days of 2010 selling off some of my collection in order to fund future purchases. I have some unreleased titles in my crosshairs that will hopefully turn some heads in '11, but that's yet to be seen.

1. Get the PlayStation Phone if it's on Softbank and if it doesn't suck (It is a Ericsson device it appears and not SCE so who knows). Otherwise upgrade my old iPhone 3G to iPhone 5.
2. iPad 2. Launch day. I'll take the train to the Nagoya Apple store if I have to. Somebody for the love of all that is holy please make RollerCoaster Tycoon for iPad happen.
3. PSP2. Its coming. Where does it fit with the PlayStation phone thats also coming? Sony has some questions to answer. Depending on answers possible day 1 for me.
4. 3DS? Thats a maybe. If I do buy one it would end up being more for the wife than me. Thats if there is a New Super Mario on the thing.
5. Oh another. Need to build/buy a HTPC that will let me play tons of old roms. Too lazy to do that last year especially when we had a small 22" tv. But with the new 40" sony we have I need to get on it.
6. Finally buy an Xbox 360 now that it has been redesigned? Thats another maybe. I'll wait for a used 250gb one to pop up under $200.

Find space for what i've got, make MOAR space for what will come.
Get those last two box variants for my NGPC systems, because 13 boxed units isn't enough. I need 15!
I can never have enough DS or PS stuff either, in my long slow march to owning more games than I can play in a lifetime.

It's quite sad but no more collecting for me .... ^^;
I have spent almost my entire life collecting and the last 8 years i hardly played 10% of what i bought ... from this new year on, i am gonna buy only what i am going to play. :D
It was a hard decision but the best for me, i am gonna save a bunch of money and i will enjoy my ps3 and the current generation of consoles :-D

And I guess a gaming goal would be to finally nail that 1CC in Mushihime-sama Futari Black Label and also 1CC DoDonPachi Daifukkatsu ver1.5 when I can play it.
I also want a 3DS.
And also to finally fix the Sanwa stick I have into my Dreamcast stick so I can play Fast Strikers and Trizeal and more Dreamcast shooters I haven't put much time into.
Also to play those unplayed Wii and DS games and finish the ones I planned to finish.
