And he's hoping some "Knight in Shining Armor" buys it so he can patent a "secret" item. And he promises to give the buyer the first one. X_x

So, would it be wiser to buy it outright or set your own price? Hmmm....let me think that over. Can I offer him to pay me to take it off his hands???

I like how the guy thinks the "Not For Resale" versions of Sonic 1&2 are rare. Is it just me or has every ebay video game auction with an absurd starting bid seem to contain the sellers life story?

Probably the worst life story ever written, not to mention the spelling errors and grammar. My favorite quote:
"To me Dreamcast really was made from dreams. "

Who cares. If it is priced to high then it won't sell, right?
I got a high priced item on eBay right now that I don't really expect to sell. But it only cost me a nickel to list it, so why not try?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170579640435&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT
I listed this too and I thought I priced it high at $250 OBO. Yet I got a buyer within 24 hours...

So it never hurts to just take a shot. I'd honestly rather keep the Fun N Games in my collection, but some spending money never hurt anyone.

Pfft, the only advantage is you spent a nickel to look like an uninformed price gouger as opposed to the regular listing fee, regardless if you sell it or not.

This.
Something that happened a week ago to me: I had a jacket listed that someone wanted to buy off ebay. We made a deal, and the buyer sent an e-check. While the payment was pending, I didn't want to take down the listing, so I raised the price to $999.99.
The e-check ended up NOT clearing and the off-ebay buyer wouldn't respond to emails, so I considered it a done deal. However, in the meantime, someone made an offer $30 higher than my original BIN price, was wasn't exactly cheap to begin with. I crammed on the Accept Offer button as hard and fast as I could.
Having high prices isn't the right strategy for everything, but if you've got something super rare and/or valuable, why not? (also i can't believe we're still having this discussion)

Nothing at all wrong with it. Makes the seller look stupid. I get a laugh.
So this thread is just like the Craigslist thread.
A thread to make fun of stupid Ebay listings.
Post Away !!!! :band:

Don't get me wrong, I definitely like the thread, but games that are merely listed at a slight markup aren't really that interesting. Listings like in your OP are more like it.

How about this one, the seller listed this as the original handheld from 1978 but I can tell by the picture that it's the rerelease from 2001.

Yes it was paid for and yes I already shipped it. Even that price surprised me, but a little salesmanship goes a long way.
EDIT: And no I don't ship international either. I even turned away two potential bidders who directly asked that question.

Excellent use of a mirror table in the OP's original link. At first glance I thought the seller was selling 2 XBoxes and two of each of the N64 games!

seriously......whats the point? so you can spend 500.00-1200.00+ to look at the box art? for that price you could probably purchase the original painting of the box art....

That's crazy. I sold a boxed copy locally for $10 a few years ago. It wasn't in perfect shape but it wasn't too beat up either, though I can't remember if I had the instructions with it.

The only reason I can think of is because it's the non-Player's Choice version, which is rarer because the majority of consoles included the game already. Also that poster looks to be kind of older. (not sure if they updated them as the game was reprinted over the years)

Part of the problem is Ebay sellers seem to have no concept of what the term "brand new" means (hint: it DOESN'T mean used).

There is one seller that sells games as "COMPLETE" even though it's clearly missing the box.
I once contacted the seller letting them know that the box is missing and thus is was not "complete", yet he never respond back and continues to sell these as "complete" when it clearly isn't.
At that point I realized that it's his problem, so let him deal with it.
Edit: Here are two sellers that state that the game is "complete" when it clearly is not:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Sword-Hope-II-Game-Boy-Nintendo-Complete-Cleaned-/290516443491?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item43a4212163

Why they do this...I don't know. The title and inconsistency is a magnet for a neg-inducing buyer.

I really wish E-bay would get rid of the Buy it Now listings and make everything an auction. It's supposed to be an auction site anyway.
At least do away with the listings where people relist the same high priced item again and again for months.

Why would they? They make money from the listing AND the ads.

Because he knows he will lure in a sucker who doesn't know the value or wants immediate gratification of a childhood memory and doesn't care to look up pricing. It may take a while, but someone will buy it eventually.
