Finally! !After almost 11 years of delay, I'm now the proud owner of a PS2. Now games like God of War, Shadow of the Colossus, GTAs and such will be no longer an eventual experience - and now I can actually participate in the Modern Gaming forum (at least until the ps2 turns classic!).
I'm happy as shit...but no one I know here can understand the feeling better than you guys. So here I am, sharing the news! And now, time to search for a "best ps2 games" thread :)
Next Mission: convince ex-girlfriend to donate the Intellivision she has lying on a box, sad and lonely, at her place.

This is interesting because I just got a PS3. Only took me about 2-3 years to get that. What sports games are you playing on your PS2? I mostly like the baseball games. My 2 favorite baseball franchises on the PS2 are probably MLB Power Pros (unfortunately, it looks like they only made it for 2 years) and MVP Baseball. The last one they had of that using the MLB license was 5 years ago...they then turned it into a college baseball game and it just wasn't the same.

I recently joined the PS2 club as well. Oddly enough, it was more at my wifes insistance than anything. Something about all the Disney games she kept seeing for it.

Enjoy it while it last, I hear they may be bumping ps2 down to the old school level soon....

I still play my Playstation 2 more than my Playstation 3. It has an amazing library of games.

The PS2 has so many great games but no PS2 collection can be complete without owning The Guy Game. Why? To see the low point of gaming last gen.

I really like Wizardry: Tale of the Forsaken Land, and I also got a lot of play time out of Monster Hunter. The Persona games are fun if you like JRPGs.

Thanks for the response, guys! I'll take note of all the suggestions you gave.
The PS2's already giving me some good times. I'm playing Shadow of the Colossus (what an amazing game!), and also some Guitar Hero; the guy who sold me the console also gave me a cd with lots and lots of emulators and roms, but I haven't played those yet - and probably won't for quite a while.
I still have to dedicate more time to God of War II, God Hand and some other games that came with it; Sonic Unleashed is one of them, so I'll finally get to see if modern sonic games are really as sucky as people say! LOL
Rog, the PS2 came with Madden 2010 and NBA 2010 (or something like that); I'll probably play the basketball game a lot more, since I love the sport. But I'll give madden a look too. I'm not really into sports games; the only one I really love is Mutant League Football for the Genesis.

I'll list what I have on PS2 that I really like
Blood Omen 2 (completed)
Soul Reaver 2 (completed)
Legacy of Kain Defiance (completed)
Dragon Ball Z Budokai 1-3 (completed)
Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 1-3 (completed)
Sonic Mega Collection Plus (just for convenience)
X-Men Legends 1-2 (completed)
Marvel Ultimate Alliance (completed)
Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 1-2 (completed)
Champions of Norrath
Suikoden 3-5 (completed 3, only tried out 4 & 5)
King's Field: The Ancient City
Super Bust-A-Move (played through some paths)
And to be honest I have a whole lot more PS2 games I haven't even played yet apart from just making sure the discs worked. But this list has always been my favorite. I kinda like Final Fantasy X but didn't play enough of it to judge it. Same with Shadow Hearts: Covenant and Disgaea: Hour of Darkness.
I will say that Dragon Ball Z: Infinite World disappointed me because it came out after both Budokai arcs which built up content and characters as they went. This game doesn't have nearly as many characters as the previous games and the only things that expanded were the stages. I barely touched Super Dragon Ball Z and never played Dragon Ball Z Sagas. I tried other anime based fighters and they didn't seem to control as well as the Dragon Ball games.
But there you go. My favorites list has some RPGs, Fighters, Adventures, and Puzzles. One shooter I also liked that I tried multiplayer on was 007: Agent Under Fire. I haven't played any of the traditional platformers like Crash and Spyro although I have Pac-Man World 2 & 3 that I still need to try playing, but those three Legacy of Kain games have some 3D platforming elements in areas, especially Blood Omen 2.

Holy shit what took you so long?
Money issues, basically.:) Videogames are expensive here, and I never found an affordable enough (for my broke-ass self, that is) ps2 to get one. In fact, since my childhood, I've always been at least one generation late in my gaming because of that.
Once again, thanx for the tips, guys! They'll be very useful!

Haha, same. I just got a barebones PS2 that doesn't read DVDs for free from a friend of mine, definitely going to get Battlefront I for it, not sure what else at the moment.

I know how you feel. My first PS1? Purchased in 2005. A PS2 followed shortly after that.
There's a mountain of good stuff to try, and I'm sure you'll have a great time.

Isn't it too difficult/expensive to track down the quality PS2 titles nowadays?

Not really. There are tons of PS2 games in used game stores for $5-10 each. I've been buying any game that look halfway decent for the last couple of years in that price range.

I was thinking of those too. Don't forget the Midway Arcade Treasures series and the Namco Museum collections if you enjoy arcade games. Atari, Activision, Sega and also Intellivision have released compilation discs also to keep you gaming for a good long time.

In all seriousness, Jaws Unleashed. I dare anyone to name a better ps2 game in the "IMA SHARK" genre.

I have hundreds of PS2 games and I can safely say that it is probably the console with the most extensive library of really good titles.
Silent Hill 2 is a must for sure as well as MGS3 Subsistence (if you can get that one).

The PS2 has so many awesome games. If only they all offered 480p, it would be spectacular for the compilations alone. It's really difficult for me to go back to modern-era non-HD gaming.

You are now requied to play Okami. Even if you have the wii version, the PS2 version is better.
Oh, and go get Dark Cloud Dark Cloud 2 (highly recommended), Disgaea, and Disgaea 2. Happy gaming!
