Doesnt Matter if Anime based or not

Gundam Wing Endless Duel is a great example, but while not nearly as good as Endless Duel, I think Kidou Butoden G-Gundam is underrated.

Saturday Night Slam Masters?

How is the SNES version of that different from the Genesis one? I have the Genesis one but that doesnt fit in with this thread. But yeah Saturday Night Slam Masters counts.

I really enjoyed Dead Dance for SFC. The US release as Tuff E Nough was neutered.

Art of Fighting 2 for SFC kinda flew under the rader but I thought it was a decent port.

Although gameplay-wise it's not SFII or say, Tournament Fighters, but for fans of the source material, it's pretty damn close to Heaven.

Also, if we're talking wrestling games too, Natsume Championship Wrestling is pretty damn underrated/unknown as well. Finest 'pure' wrestling game on SNES by far IMO

Maybe not so unknown, but Weaponlord is definitely underrated.

I'm quite fond of the SNES ports of World Heroes 2 and Fatal Fury Special, not obscure but neither were they blockbusters.

No, I was thinking just straight fighting games on the SNES or SFC.
Like Cho Aniki, I seen someone say that game was good. but I never played it and it looks weird as shit.

Also the flashier the better!

The Turtles fighter game is solid, and I think the second Ranma title is the best of the three that were released.

Ranma 1/2: Chougi Ranbu Hen and Chō Aniki: Bakuretsu Rantōden for the Super Famicom. Cho Aniki is actually how the Dragon Ball Z fighters should have been for the air battles.

This is kinda a loaded question.... Because only a few fighters were ever good.

Ive played alot of fighting games on the snes and well... They just dont feel right.
I mean the midway mk series and capcom games are first rate but the snk games ive played feel "cartoony". I cant put my finger on what makes them bad, maybe poor hit detection , i dont know but there just bad. Compare any of the sf games to fatal fury and it just isint the same.Fatal futy comes off feelin realy generic. Marvel war of the gems and mutant apocalpse feel more like fighting games to me...

Back on topic if you let sat. night slam masters fly then I really like wrestle mania the arcade game. Its a mix of MK and WWf !!!

p.s. Ive never played tmnt fighters how does it stackup???

IMHO it's the best "SNES-only" fighting game. Extremely playable and loads of fun against a similarly talented human opponent. The CPU, however, is pretty damn brutal.

Oh? How was the US version neutered?

On a side note, I know it's not a very popular fighting game (or even opinion) but I seriously dug me some SNES Fighter's History. It's just a good old fashioned blatant SFII rip-off that I find plenty playable, with nice large arcade-like graphics and all the cheesiness of the arcade game. I think the SNES translation is a damn fine effort. That's my story anyhow and I'm stickin' to it!

I like Power Moves (Power Athlete in Japan), but it's generally regarded as a bad game, so look into it for yoruself before believing me. It's another SFII rip off, but a rather cool one - and the fact that you jump using a button (IIRC) is quite a change on the gameplay dynamics.

Heh, I have good memories with Power Athlete/Moves. It was the first ever import game my bro and I rented back in the day. I really liked it back then, but revisiting it about four years ago... sadly, it's not as playable as I remembered. It's very clunky and I would not recommend it at all. But who knows, your mileage may vary. It was also unique for the fact that the stages allowed you to move up and down a la a beat 'em up. It just sucked that 1. The controls are clunky 2. Blocking special moves takes off no energy and 3. You could only control Joe in the 1P mode

I wrote a review of the game here: http://www.rvgfanatic.com/7401/66101.html

Good game, although a bit broken. You can plow through it using only Michaelangelo's shoryuken.

Also, Fighter's History Mizoguchi has the most impressive, polished combo system on SNES.

Natsuki Crisis Battle is another cool and obscure one, it takes place inside a Japanese High School.

I enjoy World Heroes 1 for SNES. Also, Art of Fighting on SNES is second only to the Arcade Card CD version in the world of adaptations.

Also, if Wrastlein' is included, are beat-em ups? If so, King of Monsters and The Combatribes are fine little games. But I think I've gone off the obscure path already.

The Japanese market got a slightly "updated" version of TMNT Tournament Fighters in regards with the character Aska.

In the Japanese version, her win pose is "bouncier" and and her costume reveals more butt cheek.

Yes, I love me some King of the Monsters and Combatribes as well. KOTM in particular was quite a butchered port though, but have sentimental memories with both games. Combatribes my bro and I used to beat all the time back in the day. It's all about Bullova! ;) Shame though there's no blood and you can't chuck motorcycles like you could in the arcade

Yep, Tournament Fighters: "Mutant Warriors" was slightly different from the US version. Rat King's stage's walls could actually break, revealing extra sections of the newsroom. I'm not sure though if they fixed the unfair difficulty. The US version is mighty tough, even on default level four. I'm not sure, but I think the four turtles *might* have had different voices too, compared to the US version. Anyone know for sure?

Power Athlete/Moves (Deadly Moves for MD) has Game Genie codes to allow you to pick any character in the 1p mode, which vastly improves replay value.

Dead Dance has facial damage similar to the original arcade verison of Art of Fighting, but any blood/bruises/body damage was removed for the US release.

This.

All the others mentioned so far are the "typical" names mentioned in an SFC/SNES versus fighting game discussions among "hardcore" gamers (imho of course). However, PR:FE seems to get passed or just skimmed over quickly due to being a rangers/kiddy license cash-in game. It's actually quite fun with fairly nice production value, despite not being a very deep fighter.

OMG I never knew this!! Are you serious? W00t! I'll try 'em out... I always thought this game would be SO MUCH better if you could pick the other fighters in the 1Player mode. After all, let's be honest here, who are you gonna convince in 2010 (almost 2011) to play Power Moves with? LOL

Az, can you post the codes in a reply? I just googled for the GG codes but the site is down and I can't seem to find them on another site. Thanks.

Good call BTW on Power Instinct and Power Rangers: Fighting Edition. These games also came to mind. On a side note, I also really enjoyed the first Power Rangers on SNES. They're not bad games at all... much better than the average huge license cash-in!

SL -- always good to see ya buddy :)

MERRY CHRISTMAS STEVE! ... I can't resist SNES/SFC chatter.

On a "SNES inspired" side note...

I'm at my parents house right now and for nostalgia's sake... earlier today I went to my old room, pulled out my old SNES from the closet and fired up some Super Ghouls n Ghosts, Final Fight and Castlevania IV. Playing it in my old bedroom on the same TV I did waaaay back then sure took me back! Part of the reason why I leave most of my original US gaming gear at my parents house... it's my little vacuum of a time machine/capsule that I can re-visit from time to time. :)

Haha NICE. Love it. Merry Christmas to you too bro. Yeah, talk about 3 early SNES games that will take you back for sure... I too can never resist the SNES (or related chatter). There's something about the combination of nostalgia and "gameplay-that-still-stands-the-test-of-time" factor (well, for some anyhow) that make it irresistable to me.

By the way, I forgot to respond to an old post of yours a long time ago, been meaning to. I'll PM ya as to not steer this topic too far off course :p (which might already be too late..)

Ive been on tmnt fighters for almost 2 days straight now!!! Pullin all nighters and already hating the thought of havin to leave to got to my parents for christmas ... Dear god this game is hard!!! Im not talkin mk3 snes hard were you know theres something wrong with the a.i. im talkin just as hard if not harder to play then a real opponent !!! This is the first fighter in a long time that I had to lower the difficulty setting just to learn the moves...

I just read on the net that you cant see a real ending at the lower levels either...
Now I dont know if this game was a gift or a curse!!! LOL

btw - this is really cuttin into my megaman 7 time , ive been stuck on the final boss of that one for a month now!!!
