Hello
I have a copy of streets of rage (classic) sealed. The thing is, I have 2 other sealed genesis games and the seal is different on them. The top is open around the hang tab allowing it to stick out where this one is completely sealed. Can someone take a look and give me their opinion?

If it's legit, what's it worth? It has a small piece of the wrapping missing (about 3/4 inch by 1/2 inch) and one small slice that goes through the wrapping and the part of the case that houses the artwork. It's about a half inch long. I generally don't collect sealed games but I'm trying to get sor 1,2, and 3 sealed because...... well I just want them :P
Thanks for the help everyone

Personally, I don't think that official Sega games lacking the oval up top are legit. I know some collectors disagree, but I have several hundred Genesis games sealed that I bought around the time they were released and every one of them has that open oval up top. Even assuming this is a legit sealed copy, it's a classics re-release and it has damage including a cut to the case which kills the value. You may be able to get $10-$20 for this assuming someone just wanted a complete copy and was looking to open it up and play. From a sealed collector's perspective, it's worth very little.

That's what I figured. I picked up the original release sealed and mint with the oval top. That's why I posted this. I was starting to doubt it was legit. Atleast I found a legit one to replace it hehe.
Thanks for the response

I would suggest opening it. If it IS a reseal you have no way of knowing what the actual contents are or what condition they are in. And considering the condition the wrapping and outer case are in, it's worthless as a sealed copy anyway.

It's (most probably) not a reseal. Brand new Genesis games around that time were coming in by the truckload with that exact same seal. And who would bother resealing a game as common as SOR?

That is assuming that the reseal was done to fool anyone, but weren't there several stores that gutted and then resealed "new" games at the time?

While some stores did that for display purposes (Babbages, Software Etc., others), their efforts were totally obvious. Knowing nothing else about where this game was beforehand, the photo above looks legit. Anyone who worked retail during that time frame can confirm opening hundreds of cases of games directly from the manufacturer that looked exactly like that one.

I disagree. I have several Sega Classics version games and they all have the oval, although somewhat thinner wrap than the earlier releases. The wrap styple shown above is what I would call a clearance re-wrap. Basically, Toys R Us and several other store chains got lots of copies of clearance games to put in dump bins. The distributor wrapped them in this style because it would stand up to being in a dump bin while the open oval would crack and break open and I have also personally seen examples of games wrapped as above that were obviously returns. While it is possible that the above game is new inside, it has zero value to sealed collectors anyway, so I don't know what the issue is with cracking it open.

The problem is there is no real conclusive evidence to what is real and what is not. The opening & seams in the right places on the sides are legit (as close as the vaunted H-seam on the NES as Genesis is going to get), but the rest is all hearsay. You can post all the scenarios you want, but you'll never be sure.
