Well, I see one of the Yu-Gi-Oh card sets is called "Legacy of Darkness." Hmm. Saw it with my own eyes at a Walmart, that evil place. Don't really know what to say, except, it's evil.

Yu-Gi-Oh's google entry is creeping <link url="http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=Legacy+of+Darkness">dangerously close</link> to the REAL Legacy of Darkness, which happens to be another CV product.

Oh, the irony is astounding.

Yeah but I doubt anyone cares that they are stealing the name from the crappiest game in the series. :P

Crappier than Bloodlines and even Legends? Nah...the thing with the two N64 titles is that it's a matter of choice. Of the two, some like the original better, some like LoD. I wouldn't call them the worst of the series, though.

Fine then I will rephrase my post..

I doubt anyone would care that they stole the name from one fo the worst Castlevania games in the series. :/

...better? ;)

Argh, way to bring this off-topic >)

I don't really care how you phrase it; call it one of the worst games but remember that this is your opinion. Certainly there is much to be desired from the camera and controls, but there is nothing that objectively distinguishes it as, in fact, inferior to most other games in the series aside from that. That is a fact. All complaints about the story, pacing, mood, gameplay (which I highly enjoyed at the time, by the way) and music are opinion. I freely admit that the game caught me when I had scarce few other N64 titles, but among them were Goldeneye, Super Mario 64, and both Zelda titles. Those didn't bring down my opinion of the N64 CVs at all -- the new perspective and feeling was welcome.

If that's how you feel, just say it, we don't force anybody to alter their opinions around here, do we? I really hate how people feel a need to exude a personality scrubbed clean with something approaching political correctness -- if I sound pissy, it's possible that I just feel like disagreeing. Don't back down, because that's an insult to everybody!

Personally, LoD was the better of the two Castlevania's on the N64. Hell, it practically had the first one built into it, what a waste of money part one was. I did enjoy the game, and this comes from a guy who didn't care for the N64 too much.

Sorry for taking this one ot a bit...

Ed...did you say you thought Bloodlines was bad?? *blatant thread hijack!* That's one of my favorite CV games!

You think most kids would make the connection between YGO and CV though?

Hah, we already did.

@ Maxlords: You know, it's got some nice parts to it. I'd rather play Dracula XX, though. It's got Richter, better visuals (some of which are better than the corresponding visuals in Rondo, take the falling bridge sequence which is markedly prettier and more active than the dull counterpart in that level, what was it, 2'?) Anyways, that game used a lot of stuff from Bloodlines and cleaned it up a bit. Bloodlines does have the famous music, like Iron Blue Intention (listening to the Dracula Battle remix of it at the moment, in fact).

At least they managed to clean it up a lot over what that Beta looked like...yikes.

Legends, I don't have to explain that. There's a hack out there which fixes up the graphics immensely; I'm convinced that the team was attempting to capture some of the feel of Haunted Castle -- if my only evidence would be the zombie graphics, which look like a grayscale, cut down replica of HC's red-flashing-eyed zombies.

CV Adventure, also, is another game that honestly deserves to be ranked lower than either N64 CV. Nearly every single jump requires you to be at almost the very edge of a block to hit the next -- very unforgiving play mechanics. That said, I've got a savestate somewhere with myself up to, geez, my 4th or 5th time through the game. Not a lot of fun without the graces of savestates, though. Still, had that been fixed it would be considered much more fondly in gamers' hearts.

Well, looks like this became Ed's CV rant thread. I do hope nobody got the impression that I can't stand criticism of my favorite game; what I don't like, rather, are those moments when people think that being more "friendly" and less confrontational about things is the answer. Stick to your guns!

Oddly enough, Bloodlines stands with Dracula X: Chi no Rondo, and Castlevania III as the only pre-Symphony Castlevania games that I'd ever want to own. Of course, the old-school Castlevanias have never been my favorites. They're decent in design and atmosphere, but I find the play mechanics tedious and the control too stiff. Bloodlines took a few chances with its style and characters, so it rates a little higher with me.

I didn't care for either N64 Castlevania, though I'd probably choose the second over the first. That said, The Castlevania Adventure is probably my least favorite Castlevania game, though I almost like original coin-op (Haunted Castle, right?) even less.

As for Konami's Yu-Gi-Oh allusion, that slight cannot compare to the ignominious affront visited upon the Castlevania name by this establishment.

Why, they don't even include Castlevania in their crossover list! Horrors!
