Earthworm Jim was pretty good, I watched it a lot when I was a kid. Same with the early Sonic shows.

You missed the annual airing of Christmas Comes to Pacland on Boomerang, but if you have Verizon FiOS On Demand you should be able to find Q*Bert minisodes on CrackleTV. Although all of the Saturday Supercade cartoons were horrendous, they can be fun in small doses.

Also, I believe you can still find the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic Undergound on THiS Baltimore, if you get that channel (FiOS 465 for the Baltimore area).

Don't forget about the Panzer Dragoon and Fire Emblem OVA's, or the two Dragon Quest Animes (pretty hard to find). There's also the Donkey Kong cartoon, which IMO is pretty bad.

Did you guys check out this thread I made a bit ago?

http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=149651

I'm still in the process of obtaining the last few episodes, after which I will probably continue my analysis.

I've been collecting a lot of other "Video Game Animations" as well. I guess I could ask here - does anyone here know how to rip video from a Japanese online rental service? I need to figure out how to snag the last 10 Virtua Fighter eps... and maybe that Tengai Makyou movie...

And apparently Parappa the Rapper and Power Stone raws are hard to find now and... yeah, there's quite a lot I need to look for, huh?

I'll contribute by posting the the rarely seen pilot to the Bubsy cartoon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1F97am9_N2I. Amusingly if you have the Windows 95 port of the first Bubsy game the pilot is on the disc.

If I remember my youth correctly, first there was Pacman, which was a hit and then came Saturday Supercade, which was pretty awful as a whole.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmfT-YPXo4M

Frogger
Donkey Kong
Q*Bert
Donkey Kong Jr.
Pitfall!
Space Ace
Kangaroo

I also remember Pole Position. POLE PISSHZ-IOOOONN!! But not which year it came out.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zj55mHD2Pes

Then I recall a wave of cartoons where everything was a baby version of older franchises, Muppet Babies, Son of Pink Panther, The New Archies, etc. I could not stand this period as everything was so condescending and preachy rather than adventure and fun.

Then after this period I recall a second wave of game cartoons starting with Captain N.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=El7TBZWZbNY

I so hated Captain N as they where basically nothing like the game characters. I stopped having a strong interest in cartoons around this time, but I recall that the late 80s had a lot of cartoons that made it to the video games soon after, like TMNT, Ghostbusters, Duck Tales, etc. I can only recall the Super Mario Power Hour as being a game to cartoon show. I'm sure Sonic is a few years after this time and had several versions over the years.

I know in the early and mid 90s there is Double Dragon and Battletoads but I really did not pay much attention to cartoons in this period of time, so I cannot name a lot of these.

Is Pokemon considered vintage yet? I seem to remember a third surgence of game cartoons starting in the late 90s, Pokemon, Digimon, Monster Rancher, etc. all anime related. By this time I was watching mostly anime or superhero cartoons. I've generally ignored the 00s output, but luckily this thread is not about those.

I remember really liking the Dragon's Lair cartoon when I was a kid because it seemed like a choose your own adventure book(and was just slightly less interactive than the game). I watched it on youtube a year or so ago and now wish it was a memory I had kept in my memories.

On another note of shows I'm looking for - not a Japanese anime for a change, has anyone ever wandered into episodes/colllections of "Video Power Team"/"Acclaim Masters"/Whatever-it-might-be-called-on-your-copy?

Is Battletoads' pilot really that rarely seen? I remember the station airing it here over Thanksgiving at least one year (and have met numerous locals who did see it) and the company released it on VHS as well.

That Mario anime movie though, I recall up until really recently the best you could find about that online were a couple screencaps.

While Battletoads isn't impossible to see, not very many people know about it or care enough to actually watch it. I picked the official VHS release up on amazon for $2 awhile back, so it doesn't seem to be due to scarcity.

As for the Mario anime, finding a legitimate copy of that seems to be almost impossible. It had a limited release in Japan, so copies don't turn up in the US too often.

I've seen the Zelda and Super Mario cartoon DVDs in a Big Lots store, marked down with other series box sets if anyone's interested in finding them cheap. It seems they have pretty differing stock at each location, just so you know.

In case anyone has forgotten, I've been collecting cels from animated cartoons based on videogames for years now. Here's an (admittedly old) photo of my gallery:

http://roomofdoom.powweb.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=48468

Right now, I'm looking at cels from:
Wing Commander Academy
Power Stone
Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego?
Bomberman
Q*Bert
Sonic the Hedgehog
Super Mario Brothers
Frogger
Capt. N the Gamemaster
The Legend of Zelda
Space Ace
Pac-Man
Street Fighter
Donkey Kong Jr.
Dragon's Lair
Earthworm Jim

Been looking for cels from Bubsy and Battletoads for years, as well as cels from Saturday Supercade's Pitfall, Kangaroo, and Donkey Kong.

I had that official VHS Battletoads tape too, I sold it for $3 awhile ago as I didn't think it was that good. I picked it up locally so I wouldn't say it's too rare.

There's a Dragon Quest anime (1989-1991), based on the manga that's spun off the games. Its English title was "Dragon Warrior: Legend of the Hero Abel" (but only the first 13 episodes out of 43 were dubbed)

Yup, its great too. Akira Toriyama animated it (of Dragonball fame)

In case anyone has forgotten, I've been collecting cels from animated cartoons based on videogames for years now. Here's an (admittedly old) photo of my gallery:That's really fantastic, actually. I think I'll start hunting some down as well.

I collected cels for a very short period, but mainly of Anime girls with purple hair, as bizarre as that sounds. I didn't mean for it to go that way; it's just that when I started, all of the characters cels I acquired just happened to be girls with purple hair. Once I noticed it it sort of became a thing, so I started focusing on it.

Anyway, that's a really great collection you have. Seeing cool stuff like that is why I visit this place.

All of those cartoons based on videogames were always so terrible, except for Megaman. The Megaman show was much better than the others.

To be slightly more specific, the Bomberman one appears to be from a B-daman Bakugaiden anime (either the original or Victory, neither of which to be confused with Bomberman Jetters), while the Sonic one mostly like is from AoStH (it could be SatAM or SU, but I'm going on the non-shaded coloring here.)

I never understood why the show was made, was Darkstalkers really that big of a hit in the US?

Not realy darkstalkers was more popular in jpn then the u.s.It never made sense to me that, dic entertainment made darkstalkers cartoon to begin with.Maybe they just wanted to cash in on the fighting craze at the time.Since (invison entertainment) had the rights to make the sf cartoon i guess darkstalkers was the next best thing for dic.

I also remember Pole Position. POLE PISSHZ-IOOOONN!! But not which year it came out.

Pole Position aired in 1984, during the darkest days of the Crash. Between this ill-timed effort and The Get-Along Gang, it's no wonder that CBS didn't order any more DiC shows until the re-titled COPS re-airing.

How about Mortal Kombat: The Journey Begins? I have the VHS, don't think it was aired on TV:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjdmOeLJP1I

And let's not forget the atrocity that was Donkey Kong Country: Legend of the Crystal Coconut. Absolutely unwatchable.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajnZ47wdZVY

Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, the Super Mario Bros. Super Show, Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3, and Legend of Zelda are my personal favorites when it comes to video game cartoons. All are readily available too on DVD in complete box sets. There's a good amount of episodes for all of them on VHS as well though too.

And I had no idea there was a Power Stone anime, that I'll have to check out. Loved Power Stone when it first came out on the Dreamcast, played the absolute shit out of it.

SatAM Sonic The Hedgehog is my favorite videogame cartoon, but there are some other gems too. A few that get overlooked are Final Fantasy: Legend of the Crystals, Panzer Dragoon, Fire Stone, and Virtual Fighter Gowcaizer.

Earthworm Jim was a good show, I liked it long before I played any of the games. I also have a few VHS tapes of the show and I'd probably buy a DVD set if one ever got released.

That Mortal Kombat video that Baloo mentioned I also had, it was crap so I sold it off.
