View Full Version : If you had a Retrode would it be able to write to a Nintendo Power SFC cart?

I just thought about that. Would it even be possible?

Unlikely.

Well it can write to the save RAM of games, but after searching the website probably not, it only reads the ROM it looks like, but who knows, maybe it does, couldn't hurt to ask the developer or buy one and find out,I really need one of those damn things.

The thing is the other carts are read only I think. the Nintendo Power is essentially a Flash Cart there is got to be some way to write to it and I would think either the Retrode or something similar to it would be the way to go.

Definitely not. If you want a flash cart that you can write to, get a specially made flash cart, such as the Super Everdrive.
In theory, it is possible to create a device to write to the Nintendo Power carts, but no one has bothered to reverse engineer it.

I have a Retrode, but not a Nintendo Power SFC cart to test with.

I have no Retrode, but I do have a NP Cart with Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 - and I don't think I'd risk writing over that.
Anyway, this sounds like something that's theoretically possible but will likely never be supported because it's not a feature a mainstream user would use.
In comparison, there'd probably be more use in writing over Satellaview 8M Packs... but that's just as much "Risk" as it is "use"...

It's not worth trying because it definitely doesn't work with any firmware revision I remember having written. My "unlikely" referred to whether this will ever work.
