View Full Version : For those of you who missed the XBLA freebies...

...some kind soul has put together an .iso of five games that were previously released on XBLA for free; those being:

Aegis Wing
Dash of Destruction
Hexic HD
Totem Ball
Yaris

Four out of the five are now delisted or otherwise unavailable to download from Xbox Live (save for Aegis Wing). If you (like me) missed out on these games the first time around, all you have to do is visit this thread (http://digiex.net/downloads/download-center-2-0/xbox-360-content/1422-aegis-wing-hexic-hd-dash-destruction-totem-ball-yaris-full-games-7.html), download the .rar, burn the .iso file and stick it in your XBox. The CD will show up as a "Mixed Media Disc", but the games themselves will show up individually in your All Arcade Games list. Easy as that. The only caveat is that the games have to be run from the disc; there's no option to copy them off to the HD. But other than that, there's no hitch involved.

Oh nice link!

I think HexicHD came for free when I got my Xbox, though it's still nice to have a backup CD!

I would love to find Dooom for the Xbox...it's listed as "free" whenever I try to upgrade from the demo included in the Xbox HDD, but it has been delisted. :(

Pretty cool. FYI: Hexic HD was never "delisted" as it was never sold on XBLA. It's always been included with new 360's with hard drives or on-board memory. It's been on every 360 I've bought in the past 5 years including the 4gb slim I bought my Dad this Christmas...so it's still shipping to this day.

The only one I missed was Totem Ball...and I don't count that as a miss ;)

Aegis Wing isn't available anymore???? That game is GREAT!

Didn't Carcasonne come free for a while at the beginning too? I know I didn't pay for it and I have it in my list of games....

Aegis Wing is still available for download. Just installed it and it's currently running without the need to use the CD/ISO.

Also, if you, like me deleted the games, you can still get them via your download history.

Hexic HD was available on the marketplace for a while as a way to allow people to retrieve it if they had deleted it or a hard drive failed.

And others have been able to get a code from Microsoft to download it, so even after it's marketplace page was deleted, it was apparantly still on their servers.

I thought Aegis Wing was still available. I think the others were delisted because they were only intended as 1 year promotions. Aegis Wing wasn't promoting anything.

Carcasoone was a normal XBLA release that they just gave away free for a couple of days to celebrate the 5th anniversary of Xbox Live. Doesn't really fit with the others, in my opinion.

It's definitely not free any more. I paid 800 points for it a few days ago.

It's not the 5th anniversary of Xbox Live anymore. It was always 800 points except during the anniversary when it was given away free.

Me too (in fact, it had no drive to begin with and I bought one used).

For those of you wondering about temporary freebies, like Carcasonne: Most games' availability is tied to your gamertag. So if the full version was included on the a CD compliation, once you put it into your Xbox, it would only play it as a trial game since you haven't been given the "clearance" (i.e. bought it) to play the full version. Simply put, it's like downloading the full game and then paying for the right to unlock it. If it's not unlocked, then you can only play the trial, despite having all the files from the full version.

The reason why this particular CD works is that the games included are not tied to your gamertag; therefore, the Xbox reads that the full versions are on the CD and lets you play the full versions. I wouldn't count on being so lucky anymore. I've read that even recent free games, like Doritos Crash Course and Harm's Way, are now tied to your gamertag like the previous example, so you must go through the actual act of downloading said game.

And thanks for pointing out that Aegis Wing is still available. I've changed the OP to reflect that. I still think of Hexic HD as "delisted" even though it never really was "listed" in the first place. If you never got the chance to play it before, you can't just go to the Arcade now and download it, like Aegis Wing. So I think it belongs on this compliation.

There were two other games up, I do not know if the still are. Both user made, one was a Twisted Metal clone and the other a Wipeout game with your avatar.

Like I've already said, Hexic HD was "listed" for a time on the Xbox Live Marketplace to allow people to download it. There are screenshots and plenty of reports online that confirm that.

So technically, it has been delisted since it's been removed (Although people are still able to call MS to get a code to redownload it).

Totem Ball and Yaris are the only ones I missed and I heard that I'm really not missing much with those two.

Totem Ball required the vision camera from what I heard (So I never downloaded it), but I did download Yaris.

Yaris easily would make it on to my personal top 5 list of worst games I've ever played.
