I picked El Viento because it's the best. Earnest Evans is pretty awesome, too.

Honestly, I've never played any of those games and I'm a big Genesis fan. Seems I have some games to check out. Also, many would argue your viewpoint of Thunder Force II.

From that list, I chose El Viento.

That list is lousy. The honor goes to Snow Bros. or Shining Force II.

Gain Ground is hands down the best game there.

It seems like this is a list of the best Renovation Genesis game, not the best Genesis game of all. I picked Elemental Master. Mostly because the music is godly.

Hah, I was expecting El Viento to be every option.

Is this the Best Under-rated or unknown games list? I've played like 2 of the games on the list, and I have well over a hundred Genesis games.

Bogus, oh so bogus list. The BGGE is Heavy Nova, obviously!

I absolutely loved Gaiares. The Translation is just bizarre.
Why isn't Valis III on that list?

The only one I've ever played from that list is Earnest Evans, so I guess I'll vote for that. I'd have liked it a lot more if Earnest didn't move, look, and act like a marionette.

For the record, I personally think the BGGE is Shining Force II, but to each his/her own.

I love the arcade game, but this.... Not even going to say anything. :yipes:

You know it's this game. Music is the weapon! :D

I've never played anything on that list and have only heard of a few of those games. The best Genesis game was Spider-Man, a rare case of a good superhero game when such things didn't really exist yet.

Arrow Flash, because I own it. :)

Great poll.

1) El Viento - The only answer the Genesis has for Night Creatures.

2) Elemental Master - Like a vertically scrolling Thunder Force III, except good.

3) Gaiares - Badass shooter, almost as badass as Rayxanber II.

4) Earnest Evans - Even more memorable than Fiend Hunter.

5) Granada - The poor man's Metal Stoker.

6) Gain Ground - Nice, but sucks compared to the PCE CD version.

7) Beast Wrestler - Not quite as good as Shinobi III, Phantasy Star IV, or Sword of Sodan.

8) Arrow Flash - I'd rather play Heavy Unit.

9) Jennifer Capriati - :\

10) Exile - Bad version of a game that was mediocre even on the mighty PCE CD.

Same. Utter nonsense! I'd probably say it's either a Sonic title or Shining Force.

Boy, did that go over people's heads or what?

Anywho, I don't entirely understand the OP's list. El Viento and Elemental Master are obscure but not terrible like Beast Wrestler, so the list seems kind of silly.

Ah, you're absolutely correct. I feel silly. Especially considering I actually read what you wrote.

For some reason, I was thinking this was a parody of the other best Genesis game poll that sprung up the day before. I mean, it did have Beast Wrestler as an option.

Even so, I say we railroad it anyway, considering Renovation gets mentioned by the OP exactly 0 times. Good catch though. I also saw that you wrote that, and for whatever reason, it flew in one eyeball and out the other.

But, "back on topic", where is Mega Bomberman?

Oh I do apologise. I must have somehow mistakenly read 'Genesis' for Renovation. Still, easy mistake to make...

While I applaud the inclusion of Grenada, game rocks... Alex, the question to the answer given is: What is MUSHA?

Zigfried
01-15-2011, 04:28 AM
I only had room for ten games, so I could only include the absolute best. If I had eleven spots, Arcus Odyssey would have been on there, too.

Clunkers like the Sonic games don't belong on a top Genesis game list, unless we're talking about Sonic 3D Blast. That one was pretty cool (although the Saturn version was better). Even then, I'd say it would be #19 at best, behind important stuff like Traysia and Sol-Deace.

Also, to the guy who said I mentioned Renovation exactly 0 times, you should go back and read the poll again -- I clearly indicate that Renovation is wholly responsible for Elemental Master and Gain Ground.

I saw that. I meant that you hadn't mentioned it in the title or in your first post, which is where I'd put it, if that was the point of my list.

So the question still stands, is this supposed to be a top Renovation list, or Genesis in general, and just happens to be populated by Renovation titles?

I suggest replacing this whole list with "Awesome Possum" as soon as possible due to your statement about Thunder Force II.

Renovation made the best Genesis games. Therefore, this is a list to determine the best Genesis game ever, and they all happen to be Renovation games. Anyone who has played these games knows this; it's really not a hard thing to understand. If the poll were for "best Renovation game ever" then it would include Sega CD titles.

Would you all prefer a list with three variants of Sonic, two flavors of Shining Force, two chapters of Phantasy Star (because the third one is "unpopular"), and all three Thunder Forces? There would be no room left for reasonable inclusions! It would also be entirely too obvious that Lightening Force would win.

Feel free to make your own flawed "best Genesis game ever" poll -- it has certainly been done before. My only regrets are that Arcus Odyssey and Valis III could not be on here.

Renovation made the best Genesis games.
You mean they published the best games. They didn't develop the games, they just published them. Most games were made by Telenet but Gain Ground was made by Sega.

And there's no mention of Y's III.

Zigfried
01-16-2011, 01:15 AM
Renovation was one of Telenet's wholly-owned labels, but good catch on Gain Ground. You're the first one to get the joke (or at least, the first one to mention it)

Breetai
01-16-2011, 01:23 AM
I actually kind of like Ernest Evans. I was crazy enough to get the Mega CD version. I even bought a Japanese Mega CD system just for this game. The music is pretty sweet. The animation is interesting and strangely erotic, but I'm not exactly sure why.

Zigfried
01-16-2011, 01:31 AM
Until you said "erotic", I was right there with you. I bought a Mega CD for that and Anet Futatabi.

Then I bought a whole bunch of other stuff once I had the system.

I was hoping that wasn't what you were indicating, because it's incorrect. Technosoft programmed Elemental Master (and I think published it in Japan) and SEGA made the Gain Ground arcade game (according to gdri, Sanritsu did the port). A few of the games (including Arrow Flash, which was published by SEGA in Japan) were Telnet, but the list also has some Wolf Team designed games (Ernest Evans, El Viento, and Granada).

Zigfried
01-17-2011, 01:22 PM
Telenet maintained ownership stake in Wolf Team, even when WT was treated as an independent developer/publisher. Otherwise, yeah. I was hoping more people would get the joke about EM and GG.
