The game looks pretty decent from what I can tell from the videos included at the above link. Anybody know anything more about it? I'd like to get my hands on the ROM and give it a play through if possible.

ROM's been out for a couple weeks now, you can find it real easy. Also I think there was a thread in the Prototype board that has some info on the game. Main thing I know about the game is that it's an Famicom Disk System port of an MSX2 game.

Yeah, I wanted to get a copy of Doki Doki Panic on a cart as well.....not possible.

I wonder if there is a way to convert the files into the proper ROM file to fit on a cart.....

I'm sure it can be done, there's ton's of Super Mario 2(JPN) pirate carts out there. Shouldn't be too big of a task as long as the game doesn't use any extra sound channels or any other FDS specific hardware bits.

Looks kinda cool.

There are doki doki panic pirate carts as well (I've got one), though a bit harder to find compared to other FDS to cart games.

It's in my signature link to my old "room of doom" pics. Bought it off a guy in Singapore a while back. Also got the Konami FDS game "Arumana no Kiseki" and some other FDS only stuff. Got them back in the 80s not knowing they were disk system only.

Square-Enix Aliens NES Game Found

There was no such thing as square-enix then, they were separate companies until fairly recently.

It's nice to see it rescued from the grave and given at least an afterlife in rom format. Doesn't look very fun to play through though, kinda generic and boring too. Still nice to have floating around.

I'm aware, thanks. Simple screw up on my part.

That isn't too hard because SMB2 was only a Side A game; it didn't use both sides of the disk. The issue with putting FDS games into a cart's memory is that you have to actually modify the code in the game to get around the disk flipping screens; otherwise, as soon as you hit "SET SIDE B", your game is effectively frozen as you'd have no way to pass that with just a cart.

I totally forgot about disk flipping, you're completely right about that. I guess even that isn't a big deal though since a couple posts up somebody mentioned having Doki Doki Panic on cart and that was a double sided game.

When FDS games load files from disk, they set up several strings in the BIOS for the desired file, including what side it's on... that can be easily hacked when doing ROM conversions so that the game thinks that all the files are on a single side. The hard part about ROM conversions is making all the game data map properly now that it's in bankable ROM format.

You guys should read the Prototype forum, posted this a week and a half ago....

And the game pretty much stinks.

Oh, and BTW I believe it (Doki Doki Panic) does use the FDS' extra sound capability.

I think you're right about that, it's honestly been years since I played the game so my memory is fuzzy. Well I guess worrying about the extra sound channels of the FDS isn't that huge of a problem then if that pirate copy that StealthLurker owns doesn't have sound issues/sounds hacked out.

I wouldn't doubt that someone is already trying to make a cart repro of this Aliens FDS game.

Probably why it wasn't released!

Although, just looking at the videos, it looks more playable than some other NES games I can think of. I hate the music on that first stage though. Nobuo Uematsu that is not.

And just as a side note, I also was irked by seeing "Square-Enix" in the title. I'm sure TC has been ribbed enough by it though.
