An interesting read, although you should edit out the numerous exchanges like this one:

Brenda Huff: Are we almost done?
Brenda Huff: If not, I may have to finish later.
Epicenter: Yes, almost done
Brenda Huff: OK

If it's only relevant to you, it's not relevant to the reader. For example, I don't need or want to see you begging for protos. (And, geez, save that shameless behavior for the END of the interview!) Don't just cut-and-paste your IM log; apply judicious editing.

Also, while I know this is probably outside your budget, phone interviews are SOOOOO much better than IM quasi-interviews or email questionnaires. (It's outside my budget, too, but I call 'em anyway.) You can ask more questions in less time, you can ask proper follow-up Qs, and you can get the interviewee to say things she might not have meant to say, which always makes for a more interesting read.

Just a little unsolicited advice from a grumpy bastard.

That was an interesting read, but I would agree with Zach. It really takes away from the article seeing the side comments which aren't relevant to the reader.

Regarding phone interviews, just be sure to have QUALITY recording equipment... The interview I did with Warren Robinett (a LONG time ago) for 2600 Connection was almost impossible to transcribe since I wasn't using quality equipment -- I wasted a lot of time just trying to figure out what he said.
