2011 Portland Retro Gaming Expo Announced

The 2011 Portland Retro Gaming Expo will be held on the weekend of September 24-25, 2011 at the Doubletree Hotel in Portland, Oregon!
What's different from last year?

Our 6th annual show will enjoy the following enhancements:

* Different weekend. For the past two years we have held the PRGE on the third weekend of September. In 2011 we have moved it out one week so as not to coincide with other events in town (like the awesome Portland Pirate Festival) and to move to a new venue that was available on that weekend.

* New venue. The 2011 PRGE will be held in the Exhibit Hall of the Portland Doubletree Hotel located in Portland's Lloyd District. The Doubletree is located just steps from the Lloyd Center MAX Light Rail station and just across the street from Holladay Park.

* More space. While we enjoyed a strong relationship with the Portland Crowne Plaza, our show has simply outgrown their facilities. In 2010 we used over 8,500 square feet of floor space spread across two rooms at the Crowne Plaza. Our decision to move to the Exhibit Hall at the Doubletree gives us access to 17,000 square feet in one contiguous room.

* More games. In 2010 our Freeplay Arcade featured more consoles and full-size arcade cabinets than ever before. Due to the immense popularity of the arcade and tournaments we have allotted even more floor space for games in 2011. PRGE is currently working with some local arcade and pinball collector groups to help us secure even more game donations. Stay tuned for more details as we firm up these plans.

Check out our newly designed website www.retrogamingexpo.com

We encourage you to check back with this website often as we will constantly be updating with information on the show and classic gaming in general. Look for admissions and vendor rates to be posted soon.

A very special thank you to Recycled Gamer for all the hard work he has done with our new website redesign!

Just over 33 days until the Portland Expo!

We just posted a lot of new information on the website (http://retrogamingexpo.com).

There is a list of speakers, a menu of systems in the arcade and the tournament list among other things.

We have already exceeded our previous record for online tickets sales by this time last year. Order soon if you would like to take advantage of the price break and the early admission. Our hotel room block is almost sold out as well, although other rooms are still available outside our block. It's going to be a big show this year.

I am going to be there as a vendor. I am going to have many rare and unusual items yet again. Last year I had the Adam computer, before that I was the NEO GEO guy with 2 of them. This year I am going to have rare games including Dracula X, Boxed NES stuff and a lot more. My auction items will include a few awesome stuff like the Crystal Xbox in box.

I'm actually a little bummed b/c I won't have many rare or unusual items. I got cleaned out at the Seattle con and haven't really stumbled across anything exciting lately. Oh well, I'll be the guy w/ the large assortment of Japanese stuff. LOL

There will be a HUGE selection of games and systems spanning all generations of games from Pong to Xbox. Over 35 vendors this year, so there will be some great products

I will be releasing my Atari DVD Videogame Collector Guide at the show. I am doing a 25 copy limited edition DVD run. 2 disc DVD covering collecting tips for 2600,5200, 7800, 8-bit, Pong, Lynx, and Jaguar/CD. Approximate time running hour and half. The DVD is $10 and I will be running a special on all four of my volumes(6 DVDS)...all four for $25. For people that dont want to get all four, there is a buy two get one free for $20...

I welcome all folks to come to my booth and say hello, or find me running one of our awesome Tourneys.

Speaking of that...I have something special planned for the Madden Classic Tourney. It might be worth it to enter the tourney if you are a madden fan or sega collector...

Didn't think I was going to make it to the show, but ended up lucking out and heading down on Sunday and having a great time. As usual, I took a decent amount of photos, which can be seen here:

Didn't buy as much as I would have liked since I need to save up for New York Comic Con, but I did go home with:

Wow best year yet. Thank you to everyone who has anything to do with the PRGE. I had a blast. Also I came away with some good finds, found someone selling a StarFox 2 cart for SNES, pretty exciting. My only real complaints were peoples lack of hygiene lol.

I think you bought that Light Fantasy 2 off me. We had the booth w/ the Pikachu statue-like thing. Shame you ended up w/ "The Best" version of Suiko Gaiden, I think I had a copy of that at the show. Well it's a great game anyway, I'm sure you'll enjoy it regardless.

We (Ty, Andy & I) had a great time this year. I'd say it was much improved over last year (no fiasco w/ the tables, lots more room, terrific set-up, free snacks). Only complaint was the lack of air conditioning on Saturday. Oh man did we need it. I was sweating to death, and since hygiene is not the number one priority of some obsessive gamers, it was really not good. Still, had a great time and really looking forward to next year.
