This is the Jordan Mechner’s KARATEKA by Broderbund – PC XT/AT/Jr version released 1984 (as the box says). It is not supposed to run smoothly on modern computers, if you do not own an authentic IBM PC XT or AT, it will require a lot of tweaking to run in under Vista etc. This version is not suitable for Mac or Commodore. The sticker on the back size says this also can be used with Tandy 1000-1200HD, Compaq Portable, AT&T PC 6300/Leading Edge Model D and Zenith Z150/160. Tested graphic cards are IBM CGA, Hercules CGC and Hercules Monochrome.

As one of the first globally acclaimed games, it represents more collector’s value, than actual game fun nowadays.

The box has some wear and stains. I believe, the stains are just the glue from the stickers and can be removed. However, I’m afraid to do it myself, as I’m not good with the chemicals’ use and I’m afraid to damage the box. The box was folded, as the previous owner did not bother to pack it duly, and just shipped it folded in the carton envelope. However, this did not worsen the condition much, all inner cardboard structures in the box seem to be undamaged.
<br><br>
The 4-page manual is almost undamaged, just one small fold-like at one of the corners. The paper has faded with the time, though.

The floppy has a blue “star” mark in the right upper corner, made supposedly by soft-tip pen by one of the previous owners. The sleeve has very little wear, however, some worn spots & minor stains can be noticed.
<br><br>
The inner condition of the floppy seems to be normal: the previous owner claimed he had really read the floppy to make a 3,5” copy for me by my request. However, judging by the contents of the 3,5” I believe, he did not manage to find a working 5,25” drive, and just downloaded the game from some file archive.
<br><br>
The floppy may well be readable. But as I have experienced with my old VHS, the more one uses the old magnetic stuff, the faster it wears off. So even if I had the equipment necessary, I would prefer not to use the floppy for test, since a single run may be the last one in this case. I would suggest the buyer reads the floppy at his/her own risk: because the case with the above mentioned extremely rare VHS was, that it began deteriorating pretty fast after the first use, and I regret I used the fist run not to digitize it, but simply watched it. So I can not guarantee one can still use this floppy normally within a 5,25” drive, and even if it does run, some files may well be corrupt, as this routinely happens with those really “floppy” discs. However, visually there no indications, that the floppy is damaged or unreadable.
<br><br>
The barcode disattached itself due to the long time period. It is solid & strong & glossy, but the glue has soaked through the paper base, and it looks grainy now. However, it is not sticky or unpleasant to touch.
<br><br>
The item has no significant odor (like dust or chemical), just the normal carton odor.

I believe, the above description is very instructive, however, I would be happy to provide additional information upon your kind request. Having said that, I have to warn you, that due to the fragile condition of the item, I will not accept returns. However I will ship it free & duly packaged with FedEx or similar service (UPS, DHL, EMS) to anywhere in the world. Please allow some extra time for delivery, if you order outside the continental US or mainland Europe. I assume I shall be able to ship the next business day since the receipt of the money, but I would prefer to reserve 10 days for this action, because of possible force major circumstances. FedEx should deliver within one week anywhere in the world, however, I would prefer to reserve one month for the delivery, since I do not know where exactly the delivery will go.
