So I pre-ordered the Balls of Steel Edition for PS3. However, seeing that money is tight, I sold about $50 worth of stuff to Amazon for a gift card. Am I able to change the payment method to use the $50 gift card, then the other $50 on my credit card? Or am I screwed, and can't use gift cards post checkout?

Absolutely. All you have to do is apply the gift card to your account (go to the account tab and add the unique code to your account), go to "open orders" and click on the invoice for your order. There will be a box up top that says "apply gift card to order". I do this all the time as I am constantly getting gift cards and codes after I place my pre-orders. The only time this doesn't work is if you are trying to apply a promo code that they give you when you buy a specific game. Those generally have to be applied at the time you order, although occasionally a customer service rep will do it for you if you ask and get one who knows how to do it.

I don't think it's a joke at all. Yes, it's an interesting story and a cautionary tale about what happens when a small developer has a huge hit and starts to believe that the money and accolades that come with it will never end, but the fact that this game is actually coming out and could actually be great is exciting. It's only a month delay and given how much stuff has been delayed in the past few weeks solely because of the earthquake and tsunami and how many excellent games have come out this month and will come out in the next two months, I'm really not that concerned about an additional five weeks.

I'm fairly certain I had the game on pre-order when they first announced it but have long since moved it to something else and picked said item up. I have a new pre-order in place for the Ltd Edition which is mostly paid off. :)

It does stink of a publicity stunt thinly veiled as a customer service tactic. For the people who thought they had it reserved but actually didn't, they'll hope that by coming in, they can somehow talk them into reserving the game while they're there. Whatever they can do to lure business away from the likes of Best Buy, Amazon, etc. :roll:

Looking at that pre-order slip brings back some memories. :) I didn't mind when they transitioned to the EB Games POS but the old GS one was pretty decent for it's time. Manually keeping reservations was a pain sometimes as we almost always had some that came up missing or had unscrupulous employees who would take them and apply them towards their own purchases (luckily those people got caught and subsequently fired).

I actually just canceled my order. I ordered the Balls of Steel edition back when it was supposed to be really limited. I just saw an unboxing that had number 83,383. I got into this when they were supposed to have 6000 of these total.

I never buy games at release because I have a backlog of currently about 100 games, but was excited for this and the fact that the LE was actually going to be limited and cool. Knowing that they have so many though, I'll wait until it's $26 in a couple months like I did with Epic Mickey -- I can play Killzone 2, Killzone 3 or Portal 2 while I wait, and based on the reviews it's getting, it'll sell quickly for a month or two and then fall quickly.

I have no issue with them selling extra stuff with it to make more money. It's just I don't buy games until they drop in price. The games that I have purchased on day one are:

- Super Mario Bros 3
- Perfect Dark

And, I felt so burned from Perfect Dark, which within a month of me getting it, I could have saved $35 on it, I haven't got one since then on the first day. I really like the LE package -- but I like LE things to be, you know, limited. With the exception also of the two games above, I never make time to play the game I buy when I buy it. I have a backlog of about 100 games. While I am positive I'll love Duke Nukem (more from a retro standpoint then me expecting it to be an awesome game. I love retro FPS titles and I don't much care for current ones, so I'm really expecting to like it.

It's a game that I really want with a limited edition that has stuff in it that I think is really cool (specifically, art book), but I also really wanted the Epic Mickey LE package, and by waiting a couple months I got that for less than half the original price. I have no doubt that will happen with this too.

yep, it's going to be out on time. Got a text message from GameStop today telling me about the 12:01am release on Tuesday and they said to arrive at 10pm on Monday night to finalize payment. Like I'm going to wait 2 hours for it.

Funny thing is with the Balls of Steel edition, I tried to pre-order it in early May from GameStop and they told me they weren't taking pre-orders on it and to check in early June. I went there on June 1st and they told me that they stopped taking orders on it and that the only way to get one is if someone cancelled their order, but then added that the few who ordered it were well known customers who were for sure getting it so I was out of luck. I thought WTF? Sounds like only friends and family were able to get it. I was gonna get it from Amazon as they seemed to still be selling the Balls of Steel edition, but after carefully reviewing all the extras, I felt it wasn't really worth the extra dough.

Besides this game, the only other game I got on launch day was Halo 2 (besides systems of course).

I don't know, it's not just a few dubious sites handing out the bad reviews on this one, it's all of the reputable ones as well. I'll judge for myself tomorrow when I get my copy from Amazon, but I'm worried this will be a major disappointment.

I'm sure that it's at least AS fun as Duke 3D which is still good fun as far as the DOOM era shooters go, and equally as derivative and full of stupid outdated machismo as the reviews of this one would have us believe.

I picked up my copy at the midnight launch (along with about 50 others at the local gamestop). I was thinking I would be very dissapointed especially since I didn't care much for the demo, but I've been having a blast on the campaign. It really is alot of fun and feels just like a good ol duke game. Now the multiplayer it's kinda lame. Has alot of lag and feels more like Unreal Championship 2, but I've only played a few matches so far so maybe that'll change.

The game is definitely full of stupid, outdated machismo (I just got it today). I think that the reviewers probably missed the point. The game is NOT taking itself too seriously. Think of some of the stupidest, yet amusing movies out there where the cast did not take themselves seriously. Buckaroo Banzai, Big Trouble in Little China, Evil Dead, etc. The list could go on forever. The point is the cast was just having fun, and not taking it too seriously. Those movies became cult classics. They were crucified when they came out. Today, many, many people love them...

My point is, the reviewers missed the point. The game is suppose to be a fun, mindless, romp. I guess some people just can't have fun without a plot as deep as a weekly Murder She Wrote episode.

So far I'm enjoying it myself. Nothing real groundbreaking here so far and kind of gets off to a slow start but it is fun. As far as the actual numbers of the BoSE I don't know how many will be/have been produced but my certificate is in the sub 3000 numbers. I'm only about an hour in. I'm in a casino or something. I've used the little truck, got shrunk, grew big again and have gotten into a bunch of fire fights.

Problem: It just isn't fun yet. The combat doesn't feel like Duke. Plus, I am getting the shit kicked out of me - I'm running out of ammo and it seems like I'm always hiding behind stuff and taking pot shots at enemies. It really doesn't feel like Duke Nukem 3D. I want to be able to run into a room and blow the shit out of enemies.

Does it get better?

The load times definitely suck. I am not having too much of a problem with ammo, but hard difficulty definitely beats me down in spots. Overall, I am enjoying the game very much. I played through it on PC and the load times were on average 5 seconds or less.

On the consoles it's like 40.
