I've got the game on pre-order...again. The PC version of course. :moon:

I think this is the one game you shouldn't pre-order. I bet it's been pre-ordered by several people through-out the years. While this time, I think it actually is coming out, there might be a chance that it will be delayed. When it finally hits shelves, the infamous vaporware champion will resign.

trailer looks fucking epic, long time duke fan here, pretty much told myself to forget duke after all the delays and really wont believe this till i see the install screen on my pc. couple things i hope for:
-the duke forever 2001 game included in a CE (pretty please? even its just a few levels)
-hopefully not too linear after playing games like fallout, i need some free roam
-from the looks of the trailer, the vehicle modes look kinda cheesy, i hope they dont do some bonus driving levels in between normal levels.
-hopefully some good story, i specifically like the whole "duke being gone for a long time and aliens destroying earth" idea, hopefully they have a bunch of back story, maybe even dukes origin?

I'll believe it when it's on a retail shelf. I'm an fps fan/junkie so I'm going to pick this one up but I really hope they have something special gameplay wise that sets it apart from all the other AAA fps games that have come out during it's 12+ year development like Halo, COD, Crysis and others.

I don't completely understand this mentality but then again I imagine my tastes are a little more simpler than yours are. I'll just be happy that this game comes out, lets me play as Duke with modern updated graphics, and has all the amenities that are commonplace in FPS games today. I can't understand the need to put lofty expectations on this game and expect it to raise the bar for the genre overall.

Rest assured I understand what it is you're asking for, I just fail to understand why this game has to have it simply because it's taken so long to come out. Just watching the trailer, I can tell I'm going to have as much fun playing this game as I did the original years ago. If it has a lot of the same bells and whistles that most of the other FPS games on the market have but doesn't really raise the bar, that's fine with me. :) Saying that, I realize it's easy for the game to get lost in the crowd of the FPS scene and it's certainly possible. However, I think just from the name recognition alone, the game will do just fine.

There was too much press for a "Duke Forever" not to come out eventually. That said, they could make any game and slap that name on it and it would sell. Don't think many would be that brazen, but I'd be wary.

If you crotch down in front of Elvis in Perfect Dark you can punch him in the balls. And the same thing goes for any Halo game when you crotch down in front of the Covenant and press "melee".

They've been on the game for over a year and they've only contributed 10%? No wai.

its duke nukem its mindless fun

its like sitting down and watching a Troma horror film

you know its gonna be crappy but its still the best fun you'll ever have with a bowl of popcorn in your lap.

Another good example is when atleast for me

when Zombies ate my neighbors came out for the SNES and Genesis
it had absolutely nothing ground breaking other then maybe killing zombies with a squirt gun. and for my money its one of my most favorite games of all time
why? cause it was fun plain and simple. i personally don't need a game to reinvent gaming.. i just want fun

so basically to put it all in a nut shell

This game could be a dare i say Doom 3 clone (with out the flash light bs) and still be a awesome game

And nobody is telling you how "you" should enjoy your gaming experiences, just like nobody is going to tell "me" how to enjoy mine. I played some of the old Duke games on the PS1 and I thought they were ok for the time. Not great mind you but certainly not the worse games I've ever played. But again this is a new era in shooters. I realize that some people like mindless shooters like Serious Sam where you just blow up wave after wave of enemies. I occasionally enjoy those kind of shooters as well but wouldn't put $60 towards any one of them.

My original post was wondering what new(if any) features DNF would bring to the table and you(and a few others) have the mindset that it doesn't matter because it's a Duke game and thats enough to make "yall" happy. Well theres certainly nothing wrong with having that mindset if you are a Duke fan but I am not a Duke fan--I'm a shooter fan.

I realize that the game WILL have an online element for sure BUT......if it's a Duke game it's gotta have two things. It's gotta have secret areas....and it's gotta have a Godmode cheat. I can't wait.....but I'll also start rejoicing when it's on the store shelf.

I got to play the demo at PAX last year... it did nothing to blow my mind, except for the fact that it is coming out. I will buy this. That box art is soooo good. I showed it to my wife, and she goes, "is that a woman's hand?" I reply that it is indeed, and then she says "that's that stupid game you played in college, isn't it?" Yep. :-D

It's from Gearbox, so I wouldn't be shocked to see this end up being a pretty decent game. They have a good track record with making fun first person shooters.

That is likely not the final version. Gearbox has been leaking various snippets and Photoshop renderings for the past couple of months to try and find out what fans would want in a collector's edition. This particular rendering is pretty much everything they have shown individually over the past few months.

The item is supposed numbered, so I would keep an eye on what numbers people are getting and how the version you want is selling, then make an informed purchase.

I'm getting the 360 version. I'm going to try and use the demo as a gauge of how strong the online community will be after the first month of launch. If it's going to die within a few weeks/months then I'll definitely wait to pick it up.

Nope it means you buy a content license that is permanently tied to a steam account. A content license is isnt worth more than $30 for the occasional must have(Dawn of War 2) to myself, I probably wont buy this for more than $10 unless the reviews for this game are outstanding.

The game will be tied to your Steam profile. That's it. You won't be able to sell or trade it.

I don't really care about that, but I'm a huge Steam user. Also the preorders already ran out at Amazon.
Yeah that's no big deal for me either, I have no problem with Steam and don't plan on getting rid of this game. As for the pre-orders running out, damn lucky I pre-ordered on Amazon about a week ago and got my invoice and everything already.

Yup the $99 is the LE, the regular $60 edition has a normal print run. Or only $90 for the LE and $50 for the standard if you go the PC route.

So I pre-ordered the Balls of Steel Edition for PS3. However, seeing that money is tight, I sold about $50 worth of stuff to Amazon for a gift card. Am I able to change the payment method to use the $50 gift card, then the other $50 on my credit card? Or am I screwed, and can't use gift cards post checkout?

I should be getting the gift card early next week.

If it doesn't let you change the payment method you can always just cancel your order and redo your preorder once your giftcard comes in.....unless they are no longer taking preorders.
