I am thinking about making a custom table to hold the Steel Battalion controller and other controllers like racing wheels and twinsticks. Right now I use a piano bench but thats just not cutting it.
I'd like to build one with an adjustable tilt and height. The base will be designed around the Steel Battalion controller since that is the largest one of the bunch. Anyone tried it yet?

I have a very basic table started and still in planning. Its a table I slapped together and put on castors to roll up/away easily. It has a section cut out from the middle, leaving arms on the table that are just high enough to roll over the arms of my arm chair. I have padded them but will improve on it.
So while its not much yet its a start and much better than trying to play with that controller on my lap, and it also serves to hold the joystick and foot pedals when not in use.

I used to put it on the table I made to use Steering Wheels..
But now I just put it on my lap.....
If you make a table I would love to see it..

Not sure you want to see mine yet lol... as I said I slapped it together literally... not the best job...but it will evolve.

Sounds like an interesting project. If I ever broke down and actually decided to own an Xbox and could justify shelling out $200 for this game, I'd definiately complete the experience with a big badass table/chair.

I just use two TV trays when playing. When I'm not playing it, I take it for walks in the park, dinner at expensive restraunts and tell it that it's a very, very naughty controller and it deserves a spankin'!
Wait.... What was the topic?

Nope. I just rest it on the arms of an old dining room chair that I sit in, and it doesn't seem to be too unhappy. The only problem I've had is that it's right up against my tummy, so I don't always see the chaff button blinking. After punching out a few times I've learned to keep a closer eye on the "mssl" box in the hud.
Anybody who's not as skinny as I am has trouble keeping it on the chair arms, though. LOL

Finally built mine. It's at the perfect height for my futon and slides in nice and close. The bottom legs can fold inward for easy storage under the futon. It is made out of piping and vinyl tubing bought from Menards, and a piece of shelf I previously had (though they sell similar ones at Menards as well).
Cost: around $15.
Time to assemble: about 15 minutes.
Yeah, I could've linked to the pictures, but I just LUV posting big ol' pictures.

That looks awesome! Simple, but pratical. And I bet it works great!

Thanks! It works REALLY well. From where I sit with it, the very top of the controller base just touches the bottom of the screen, and the two sticks are at the very edges of the screen. With the lights off, it's REALLY immersing!
It's just too bad I really suck at the game. I mean, a narcoleptic monkey would be better at it than I am.
... It's really quite pathetic.

That's some nice work, rookie. I mean it. I'm kind of jealous, even.
For other setups, see this page:

As far as your playing like...a narcoleptic monkey? Best for you to select "Rookie" difficulty in the 2080 campaign. There's no shame in it. Save "Normal" for another day.
It's that damn battleship, isn't it?

Nice work! For now, I guess I'll just be content with the kids' Ikea plastic table. It's a god-awful bright yellow, but damn is it sturdy! If it was about two inches higher, it would be perfect. Instead, I have to deal with the occasional knocking of knees. Actually, looking at those pics makes me think that I might have an old keyboard stand from my rock'n'roll days that might do the trick...

I especially liked DWraith's chair. Very nice! Of course, nothing could ever beat THE PROTOTYPE (http://www.steelbattalion.org/media/consumer/consumer0.jpg)
