I'm looking for a WORKING Betamax player. I have Laserdisc, VHS, CED, HD-DVD, and Blu-Ray, and I'm looking for a Betamax player to finish everything. Plus, I like the look of the little tapes better. Anyone have one, preferably in NJ. I'd rather it be tested out before hand. I went through four of them from the thrift around here and NONE of them work. Another preference is if I can get a player and good chunk of movies for under $100.

wouldn't mind one myself to go next to my laserdisc player ;)
however the betamax players on Ebay go for crazy prices, and trying to find
a player and a bunch of movies for under 100 bucks, good luck mate.
a player alone would properly go for around 300 judging by the auctions i've seen on ebay
of course it all depends on what model player it is.

about 5 years ago i was at a thrift store locally and someone donated a crap ton of beta max tapes still in their boxes
such as Friday the 13th, Halloween and others
wasn't thinking anything then but should have scooped them up

For a player, I'm looking to spend no more than $70-100 for one. All it's probably going to be used for is transferring Beta tapes to DVD, especially since I want to try and find "bootlegs". Since the first VCR most people had WAS a Beta, you can get tapes recorded in the '70's of TV shows in their original airing, HBO stuff back when it first started, all kinds of things like that. I want the tapes more because of the history and I love mix tapes and things of that nature. You should see my PC! It's filled with commercials, TV promos, and things of the sort.

I picked up a Sanyo Betacord player over the weekend. Problem is, I don't have any beta tapes to test with it. It's in solid cosmetic shape and it powers on, but that's the only thing I can verify. Would you be interested in the machine? If you have a tape you wouldn't mind sending me, I could test it before any money was exchanged and we could go from there. Let me know what you think.

Have you tried craigslist? I'm looking at some in New Jersey and they're less than $100.

I didn't know that players were worth so much, I always passed on them in thrift stores when they were less than $20. I haven't seen any in awhile.

If you're willing to spend $100 on one, you might as well buy a refurbished one on Ebay. You can find Betamax decks in thrift stores often enough too.

I could've picked one up at a Goodwill about 1 year ago for $20. I passed since there was no remote and it was mono RCA inputs (not terribly good reasons). Plus, I have no Beta cassettes - the only reason I would've gotten it would've been for a gift to my friend whose VHS VCR died as a replacement.
I'd still like one, although the later Super Beta and or general stereo input models are pretty expensive, which is a shame.
Just keep an eye out, although don't hold your breath - most are 25y/o+ so it's not common.

I get VHS players all the time for free, but i haven't got a Betamax yet,
but if i did get a betamax i would get a high end player
with my laserdisc i have a LX120 panasonic witch is a pretty basic player i picked up for $40us. ((NTSC American player))

Bad news if you want to get into the Betamax scene. The age and complexity of the Beta VCRs in the wild will usually mean that the majority of them are no longer in working order and the ones that are fetch a massive premium.

you should talk to me, I have 100's of original programming from the early 60s-late 90s recorded from television with commercials....Im always looking to trade for other stuff!
I also have a FEW commercially released Beta tapes. Mostly cartoons and a couple of movies.

I DID find a Beta Machine: A Sony Super Beta Theater. I still want to keep this open as it hasn't arrived yet and even though the seller claims that it works, I want to be sure.
BTW, Parodius Duh!, PM will be sent!

If it doesn't work out, let me know. I still have my Beta player. I'm in the process of acquiring a tape to test the unit out. This was purchased along with a Hi8 video editor and mini-disc player which both operate flawlessly. I would imagine this guy works fine, but I want to make sure before selling it off.
