I hope you don't mind. I'm the person that does the news updates on the cgexpo.com site. I'm going to use this thread to store ideas and events that I use on the Expo website. Consider it a preview, or a work in progress! The goal is to have a new item each day for the 30 days leading into the show. Naturally this is impossible since I'll be in Vegas several days before the show, but I might still have the page updates in place for someone else to manage while I'm away.

Let's begin. It's "T-MINUS" TIME! :rocker:

T-MINUS THIRTY!

THE CGE MUSEUM

http://www.cgexpo.com/img/museum.jpgThis year's Classic Gaming Expo will feature what may very well be the world's single greatest collection of vintage video game and computer consoles, games, prototypes and memorabilia. With over 500 unique items spanning some 2,500 square feet, you are guaranteed to see many pieces that you haven't seen in years... and many you never knew existed! From a vast handheld collection to priceless artifacts like the Atari System X (the original prototype for Atari's 5200 SuperSystem) to one-of-a-kind items like the color Vectrex, it would take hours to absorb it ALL. Fortunately the show is two days long!

This is Seth and company's third trip to Classic Gaming Expo and this year promises to be the best yet. Seth's new CD is a both an audial and visual treat. Check it out, it's a black CD slipped into a 5.25" floppy disk casing! You can purchase Seth's 18-track extravaganza at CGE2k3! Stay tuned for more details about this year's live entertainment.

A DOSE OF THE 80'S

http://www.cgexpo.com/img/recordalbum.gifPart of the allure of classic video gaming is the nostalgia. Who can forget sitting on the living room carpet and playing an Atari or Nintendo system while jamming to 80's music? DJ Shey will recreate that for you, with his huge assortment of 80's hits (and near misses) on pure vinyl and will be spinning tracks at scheduled intervals through the weekend. Shey will also be playing video game-style electronic music from around the world. So if you ran to Flock of Seagulls and stand by the music of Falco, we're going to rock you, Amadeus.

SEE THE "SUPER COMMODORE"

http://www.digitpress.com/images/logo_c64.gifThe CommodoreOne, aka "C1" is a new PC-style board that could be called a "Super Commodore" in that it runs as a Commodore computer but with enhancements in virtually every regard. It is reconfigurable in that it can be updated by "flashing" its CompactFlash card with improvements. In fact, it can even be flashed with other 8-bit computer systems and run as an Atari 800, Texas Instruments, or Apple II. There is even talk that it can be flashed to be an Amiga 500/2000 computer. Jeri Ellsworth, the designer of this remarkable piece of hardware, will have a C1 system set up at the Fresno Commodore User Group table and will entertain all questions pertaining to the C1 and gaming on it.

UBI SOFT AT CGE

http://www.cgexpo.com/img/ubisoft.gifUbi Soft was formed in 1990 in Montreuil, France as a small developer but quickly caught the eye of the industry in 1994 with the release of their game Rayman, a technological wonder with superb play mechanics and - gasp - a personality! In 1996 they teamed up with several large publishers, including Warner Brothers Interactive (on Batman) and Disney (on Donald Duck, Jungle Book and others) and by 2000 had created a legacy all their own. They further acquired Red Storm (who is best known for their Tom Clancy book-to-game translations), TLC GAME Studios, and Blue Byte Software. It seems the best is yet to come with Ubi Soft, who proves to be a stronger presence year after year. We took note all over again when they produced Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell, a remarkable game in many areas, from attention to detail to outright graphic mastery.

FUEL FOR YOUR COMPETITIVE FIRE!

http://www.digitpress.com/images/logo_twingalaxies.gifNever before has Classic Gaming Expo offered more opportunities for gamers to step and show their mettle! Besides the JagFest tournaments which have been added to this year's event, the events being run by one of our sponsors Twin Galaxies (http://www.twingalaxies.com) are sure to get everyone's competitive spirits lifted to new levels. If you're truly "old school" you'll have to try to throw the farthest javelin in Todd Rogers' Decathlon Tourney, but if you're a little more contemporary perhaps you'd like to prove you've got what it takes to win the Crazy Jump Competition on the Sega Dreamcast. If neither of those fit the twitch gamer in you, a good ol' fashioned Blastathon, Robotron: 2084 Style is perhaps your ticket to gaming stardom. Step right up and show what you've got, and walk away with armfuls of prizes and the admiration of classic gamers everywhere!

THE CLASSIC GAMING EXPO AUCTION

http://www.cgexpo.com/img/auction.jpgSo you've come to Classic Gaming Expo to find some rare artifacts to add to your collection, eh? That's no surprise - for the past two years, CGE has been the premiere showcase for the greatest single live auction a classic video gamer could ever witness. In past years, rare and one-of-a-kind items such as Rob Fulop's Cubicolor cartridge, an APF Imagination Machine, and a Supercharger Store Demo Unit or highly sought-after goodies like game prototypes and store display units have been auctioned off. This year promises to be the best yet, as potential sellers are jockeying for a chance to put their best items up for some lucky bidder to take home. The auction is Saturday night after the Expo's first day ends. Stick around and watch the greatest deals of the year close and maybe you'll head home with one of video gaming's most prized possessions!

They're not all Sachen. They may not even have Sachen games. The titles are coming from several distributors and being sold at their booth.

I'm not being sceptical, I just can't think of anything for the NES that could be considered unique (and for sale) aside from the Sachen games. (which I enjoy, to some extent, BTW)

I think you're misinterpreting the sentence. Unique. Meaning each one is different from the others. Of the many games they're bringing, there are hundreds of unique games. Not hundreds of uncommon games, not hundreds of odd games, but hundreds of titles that are not all the same title, many of which WILL be uncommon, odd, and maybe even Sachen.

Does that make more sense? Or maybe less!

CLASSIC VIDEOGAME GAME SHOWS: LIVE!

http://www.digitpress.com/images/logo_janice.jpghttp://www.cgexpo.com/img/gameshows.jpgClassic Gaming Expo is home to one of many unique events: video game game shows! Hosted by Digital Press, you can expect a whirlwind of classic game show goodness this year. The game shows will feature hosts Tim Snider (who was at one time a stand-up comic) and professional spokesmodel Janice Prishwalko. Each day of Classic Gaming Expo will feature a unique game - on Saturday the troupe has planned two trivia battle games where three players will go head-to-head and match wits on their gaming expertise. On Sunday, it will be team battles as contestants feud over the most popular answers to simple "what's your opinion" questions. Who will emerge as the champion of video gaming know-how?

We've even brought on the original host of Starcade, Mark Richards (http://www.cgexpo.com/bios/mrichards.html) to consult - and of course, share his experiences from the show!

The competition will be fierce and the prizes plentiful, but it's just as much fun to watch! Be there.

THE CGE SWAP MEET

http://www.cgexpo.com/img/swapmeet.jpgThere are few moments in this day and age when you can barter to exchange Atari games for Intellivision games, a rare title for several uncommon ones, or work out a blockbuster deal where a shoebox full of ColecoVision cartridges is traded for a boxed Game Boy and some Nintendo Power magazines. Very few moments indeed, but at Classic Gaming Expo, the "Swap Meet" has become a time-honored tradition. At 5pm on Saturday, immediately following the day's scheduled events and exhibitor hours, the main floor closes and the keynote room is converted to the CGE Swap Meet. Everyone is encouraged to bring a box or satchel full of trade items, or have fun perusing gamers' gems. In past years there have been some blockbuster deals and amazing steals (an Atari 2600 Video Life, valued at well over $500 was sold for $10 at CGE2k1). BLUE WIZARD IS ABOUT TO DIE!

http://www.cgexpo.com/img/bluewizard.jpgIf you've been to Classic Gaming Expo before, then you already know that we're always excited to try new things, especially if they're fun and gaming related. You've probably heard the title of this book blared at you from the speakers of an Atari Gauntlet coin-op. If you listen closely though, you'll hear it read to you in small intervals during musical breaks at this year's Expo. Blue Wizard Is About To Die! is Seth "Fingers" Flynn Barkan's literary love song to the arcades of the eighties. Focusing on great machines like Joust, Sinistar, and many others, the reader is led through a rich catalogue of experiences that range from the ridiculous to the sublime. Blue Wizard also makes a compelling argument for seeing video games as works of art, portraying them as "movement drama" and comparing them to great symphonic works of music. You'll be able to purchase the book at CGE as well. We've read several passages from this ambitious effort and if you've ever had dreams about video games, you'll relate very well with its content.

NWCGE PRESENTS "LABYRINTH"

http://www.cgexpo.com/img/labyrinth.jpgNorthwest Classic Gaming Enthusiasts will be demoing several unusual titles and selling loads of games, but one of the highlights that we found particularly interesting is the release of a Starpath game that was never completed called Labyrinth, for the Atari 2600. You'll notice the similarity to the game Escape From the Mindmaster, but there are so many differences in this game that it seems the entire project was scrapped and started anew. Labyrinth requires a single load and has three levels, the first two of which are completely playable. The levels, sounds, and music are different from Escape From the Mindmaster. Also, the "active" hit counter from EFtMM is missing, so you can't actually die! You'll need to find the key to advance to new mazes. Labyrinth will be packaged in a special collector's DVD case and will sell for a mere $15!

You may have to give him some time. He's in Vegas now, so I don't know if he will be "updating" anymore at this point.

I thought that was the case. Oh well, I guess I'll wait for everyone to report back from the trip.
