Hi everyone! I've got a megadrive/genesis 2 (amongst other consoles) that works fine but the led light won't come on.
What do I need to do to fix this?
Thanks

Is it a Genesis 2 or a MegaDrive 2 (further PAL or Japan MD)? If it's a Genesis 2 or PAL MegaDrive 2 you can replace the LED via soldering if that is infact the issue. If it's a Japanese MegaDrive there is no LED.

Its a UK Megadrive 2 (PAL region).
I need a bit of help in how to take it apart and get to the led light.

If it's anything like the US Model 2 Genesis then it's only Philips head screws holding it together. Once you pop the top off you'll see the circuit board, might have to remove a metal shielding plate first though. After that you'll be able to see the LED and all you have to do is remove the circuit board and de-solder the old LED and replace it with the new one.

I've taken it apart and can see whats wrong now - led light is buggered. Looks like I'll be doing some soldering and desoldering soon.
But I'm wondering where I can find a good replacement led? I've looked at ebay and no joy.

Wouldn't a normal LED be enough?

Just tried soldering it in - complete failure :(
Solder wouldn't go through so light kept falling back out and the soldering iron accidentally touched the motherboard and melted part of it so it is effectively ruined...

If it is a lost cause, at least you can still use that Mega Drive for spare parts.
