Then again with the wii being the mainstream console and a first for the Nintendo home (not portable!) that offers backwards compatibility with Gamecube games out of the box it may not be worth so much.

Super nintendos used to go for barley $20 and now the price has escalated. People selling super mario world for $15-25 on its own :|

NES's are also on this scheme with alot of them going over $40 because it has Super mario/Duck Hunt.

Nintendos 64 right now are in between. I sense that'd it'd be about a year or two until their price doubles...

But then again with the virtual console on the rise the whole old console speculation may be offset because many of the consoles best games are rereleased .

Lol now the flaming will commence :o

actually gamecubes are probably going to go the way of the ps1... nobody wants them. And it will probably get worse as the years go on... same with genesis

Thats what may also happen.

The only thing thats gamecube and sells are the controllers. The wired controlers go for $10 easy on ebay used as long as their official nintendo. The wavebird goes from $20-$40 used crazily.

Memory cards are selling too since the backward compatibility.

If the Ac Adapters were the same for the gamecube/wii (they almost are they both put out the same voltage, not sure about amperage but the physical connector is a bit different the wii has that straight line while the gamecube is more circular) it'd be more aceepted too I guess.

but I've scored a gamecube as low as $3 and it works 100%.

My Gamecube will remain with me because the GBA Player remains the only official means of recording Gameboy games.

So in that case I should invest my money into buying Gamecubes instead of investing in Gold or 401K. Let my retirement be invested in Gamecubes....

You can still invest in gold, it'll just be in the form of Zelda cartridges.

Yeah, because the Wii can play GC disks, the GC Console is useless.
Much like the PS1.
They'll be $5 a dozen.

This just in: PS1 and Gamecube are officially the most worthless systems on the planet. But the Genesis? The only reason they don't go for as much as SNES or NES is because almost all of the games for the system are easy to acquire, and there are tons of variations of the system. You can still move Genesis systems, you can't classify them into the same category as Gamecube and PS1.

401k. lol.

When you buy a gamecube, you also are buying gold! How you think those contacts are made inside! The value just goes up up up. Let's not be counterproductive but be productive! Buy up all those gamecubes and put them to a good home!

But yes, I do agree with the notion it'd be like the PS1, a bit useless because of the wii's backward capabilities. The interesting thing is also seeing how all the older games being rereleased on virtual console hurting the rarity sales.

But note, for games like chrono trigger how there'd never be a release on the wii.. suspicious suspicious. Why could that'd be  SE.

Rereleases really don't hurt the price of older titles. Valkyrie Profile Lenneth barely put a dent on the original, a sealed copy of Chrono Trigger hit almost $1,000 even after Chrono Trigger DS, and so on. In fact, a rerelease probably drums up more interest in the originals thus increasing the price. If Nintendo seriously released EarthBound on VC the price of loose carts online would probably double by proxy.

I have a sealed Metroid Prime Gamecube and a loose one. I got the sealed one for $25 because they weren't selling when priced higher than that. And I'm sure that will still be the case in a few years except for when collectors want to pay more for them....like $25.01.

Actually, I have been wondering: what's the value on the DOL-001 Gamecubes with component-out capability? Are they in greater demand than the later revision?

No one wants Gamecubes. Seriously. Heck poking around Yahoo Japan, I see a set of six junk ones for 1000yen. Buy it now at that. Sheesh...

I want GameCubes. I like mine and I like the games. I also like having spare consoles around. However, I don't see the going up in value like the NES or the SNES.

Protip: When creating a thread, it's best not to contradict your title within the first sentence, it kind of makes the entire thread pointless.
