View Full Version : "Twenty Years of Digital Press"

I'll keep it brief.

You probably already know that August 2011 marks this organization's 20th anniversary. Over these years we have produced a whole bunch of "fanzines", and THIS is a call for writers for the anniversary issue. I'm pretty sure this event marks a true rarity in the world of independent publications but here we are, and I intend to personally edit and publish this issue. It will be epic.

The issue will cover the last 20 years, basically. That gives you a lot of latitude for content. Naturally your involvement with Digital Press and/or this forum community is a plus and writing about it a double-plus. If you're interested in being a part of it, PM me here.

Game ON.

I am volunteering. I am relatively new around here but I can offer my credentials, as they are, in PM if necessary. The more private groups the better in my book.

:D

Wow, 20 years! Incredible!

I remember like it was yesterday...early 90's... reading the first few issues...Dom getting them in the mail...meeting excellent people/friends...such wonderful times...

The only one that I presume survived the test of time...apart of the 2600 Connection (don't know if it's still in publication). Reading DP...Mastermind...Paradox...Slap Dash...Zap!...good times...good times...

I'm not much of a writer, but if there is anything i can help with, I'm there!

The issue is going to be EPIC.

Well, ide say collecting games for 10+ years at this point makes me an expert. I've got some pretty good stries to tell. I'm in. Just let me know what's involved.

Wow!

Twenty years. I would have never guessed. I've been collecting for a long time. I wish I had found this place sooner. I'd like to see if I could help in any way even though I'm so new here.

Count me in, too, Joe. I'd like to contribute. I was just telling Scott S. "stonic" that I often miss the good ol' days of publishing the 2600 Connection newslettter.

You know what would be great? A glossy, color magazine format for this special issue.
Is this something you are considering?

I think it would be great too, if funds allow! Ultimately I always fall upon our humble roots, for richer or poorer :)

SO excited to see some of you interested in this. Certainly helps make it as EPIC as I promised!

Yes, I agree... it would be costly. Another option would be to take the comb binding format that you did with the first few DP Price guides. I think the comb bindings would allow you to keep costs down and gives you a professional looking product. I like the 8.5 x 11 design with a transparent sheet with a color copy / laser printer copy for a cover page that you did with DP guide #3.

How many pages do you think this EPIC issue will be?

I would like to help in some way. Leonard Herman got me in touch with DP and the 2600 Connection when I ordered the 1st edition of Phoenix (he also took me to my first NAVA at Mike Etler's store). This was in the old days when you had to send letters and there weren't any websites yet. Cool to see Tim here! :)

It sounds interesting and is certainly an awesome accomplishment. I am not sure what article topics you are looking to publish in this printing, maybe a fan or followers section of personal stories? How Digital Press has influenced people's love for video games and collecting?

I wish I had some ideas about what to write... I'd offer a cover (an homage for an ancient project never completed), only I can't find the image... But at least I can offer my congratulations, and I certainly look forward to seeing the issue.

I haven't been the editor-in-chief since 2002, so if you submitted anything since then, I can't really speak for your past submissions.

I'll get back to everyone who PM'ed within the next couple of days, thanks all.

EPIC!

I remember discovering Digital Press during the 1990s and being excited that there were others who still played their old systems.

August 2011 also should mark the 20th Birthday of Super Nintendo in the U.S.!

Also, DP or Kid Ice PM me with how to best utilize my talents.

You guys are getting removed from the group. If you're having problems understanding my PM, which specifically states that you'll hear back again at the END of the month, then we're not going to work well together on an issue.

Sorry it didn't work out, thanks anyway.

Oh wow, I did receive a PM!

I don't know how I missed it...the system didn't even advise me of it! My status said that I had zero unread messages, yet the message (and a few others) appear as unread! Odd...for some reason I am having issues getting PM's and emails regarding PM's. Although a different topic, has this ever happened to anyone else? I know it's not the browser or computer, since I use three different computers and all do the same...but I digress. :)

Thanks so much for considering me, Joe. I really appreciate it. :)

As much as it pains me, I have to let go of the offer due to current situations at home and work, since things are pretty hectic at the moment. It wouldn't be fair to hurt the upcoming fanzine development with my current issues at home and work. :(

I hope that, in the future, I might be able to help out any way I can. I would love to submit articles or just help with whatever issue that arises.

The new issue is going to be awesome. Good luck to everyone involved! :)

Wow, how did I miss that you guys have been publishing a fanzine. 10 dollars a year for 4 issues? I love this forum for the community of real gamers that frequent this place. 10 bucks a year to support you guys is nothing. I just subscribed.

Dang though, I wish I lived near your store, it sounds awesome. There's not a single independent game store still alive in my area :(

I had no idea the fanzine has been around for 20 years. Awesome!

One question though, is there somewhere on the site where its announced when an issue of the fanzine is being sent out?
