GameBox, which is said to be “all-in-one storage solution” for games, social network hot spot, games store and movie trailer screening room, enables users to play free games, backup saved games and contribute to the development of the console.

I've been waiting for a Google console (Android) or an iConsole. This isn't what I was expecting, but could be a step in the right direction.

Google is the Walmart of technology. If Microsoft can do it, so can they.

Oh hai Phantom, it's been a while.

"Ok guys, we're gonna make an open source console and people can put saves on it and play match three and oh man, I am so high I am seeing some shit".

It looks like an external hard drive. I think we're being trolled corporate style.

Thank god it's in purple. Now I can feel comfortable with a day one purchase! I can't wait to download PSOne titles from the Android GameApp store that are already sitting on my shelf.

@Cobra Commander: You can already play Farmville w/o Facebook. It's got its own portal... www.farmville.com (http://www.farmville.com) MafiaWars has taken a huge subscriber beating and they don't really tout their portal for it much (www.mafiawars.com (http://www.mafiawars.com)) but they do have one.
However MW does have a new 'exclusive' area Atlantic City that launched a few weeks ago specifically for mobile devices running the iOS. FV has it's own 'unique' items that can only be accessed via the iOS accessed version of the game. They are pushing those access points HARD.

What are those two cords coming out the side even supposed to be?

EDIT: Interesting how there's no real indication that this is launching anytime soon. Also interesting how the only related site referenced is the CEO's personal twitter. (there's actually an "official"-sounding site linked to from there, but Firefox threw up a security warning when I tried to go there). The "official" GameBox twitter seems to be mostly random facts and quotes interspersed with vague proclamations of how awesome the console is going to be... and repeated spamming of links to a site where people can donate money. Looks like they're up to 141 dollars now.

This is definitely going to happen.

and repeated spamming of links to a site where people can donate money. Looks like they're up to 141 dollars now.

So people are donating money for another group of people to spend on developing a console that they're going to sell once its finished, and "if it succeeds" they'll make millions of dollars on it which the people who originally made the donations won't see one cent of. Makes sense. Who wants to donate?

Who wants to donate?

I would if they guarantee a free unit for those who donated, no matter what amount it was (donate a buck, get a $300 console!...sweet)

I like the IDEA of cloud computing, but it's just not there yet. We're in that Sega CD/CDi/3DO era of cloud gaming. Sure it's a fun novelty, but it's nowhere near being worth paying extra money to play the same games that I can already in a browser. I think at this point the way into cloud gaming will still be through a major console, probably as a side feature. Eventually pieces of shit like this may become viable, but it seems unlikely.
