I just started playing Indigo Prophecy. It seems like an interesting concept.

When you look at the description on the box it says something to the effect of:

The decisions you make in the game will have an effect on the outcome (which I take to mean there are multiple paths, storylines, endings, etc).

The thing is, many games say something like that, but in reality, it doesn't turn out that way. At least, not the way I'm thinking of.

I just finished Dreamfall and it mentioned those same issues of choices affecting your future, but the story was basically linear. (If it looked like something important I would try one choice, then start over and try the other. The only difference would be the reaction or interaction of the characters. But you would always end up at the same place, regardless of which option you chose).

So my question is, does Indigo Prophecy really have different paths to take or is it just a fallacious selling point?

Basically, I'm looking to find out how I should play the game. If there are lots of details and multiple paths, then I will have to take a different approach than if my answers and actions, don't really mean that much.

I'd write a reply about this, but Wikipedia has a couple of paragraphs that answer your question very well.

"The game also has an innovative plot for its manifold branchings and options. The creators describe the plot as "elastic," capable of much stretching to accommodate the player's choices and decisions across all three characters, although it still follows a set plot thread.[2] For instance, in the opening scene, the player is placed in control of Lucas and left to deal with the aftermath of the murder. The player's choices, such as what to hide, what to leave alone and how to escape the diner, determines what clues Detective Carla Valenti and Detective Tyler Miles find and how the patrons recall him, and thus the ease with which they later discover his identity.

The game features three endings with the outcome dependent solely on the results of the final scenes. However, the game features many more scenes and game-play sections, depending on the choices that the player makes."

It's also made by the same people who made Heavy Rain. I really like the options in that game and you really did seem to influence the choices. Indigo Prophecy has a really good story. I also enjoyed Dreamfall but their was really not choice altering outcomes.

i've beaten this game more than any man woman or child alive lol, so i feel fairly confident in saying that its bullshit, you can pretty much do watever you want choice-wise throughout the game and still get the ending you want, (and even that is misleading as really its all the same ending)

if i remember correctly there really is only 1 choice which affects how your ending turns out and it comes in the end of the game, forgot what it was as its been a while, but even tho its false advertisement, that shouldnt dissuade you from replaying the game again and again, i think i've beaten it like 6 or 7 times already and i still always manage to find something i missed or just some small almost insignificant nothing that doesnt really add to the overall game but its still cool that they included it (SMALL SPOILER ALERT example being in the end, being able to reassemble a broken radio in the tunnels and listening to the emergency broadcasts)

That was the information I was looking for. Thanks guys!

I'm not sure why I didn't think of wikipedia. I was thinking of looking up the faqs or walkthroughs, but usually they don't contain that information explicitly and I could run into a spoiler.

c0ldb33r: I'll check your spoiler after I'm done with the game.
