So a while ago I purchased a Sega 32x and it was very problematic.
With a cartridge inserted into it, nothing happened. With no cartridge, my Sega CD would play its music, but no picture would show.
Someone suggested it was a faulty power cable. I replaced the power cable and it worked for a while.
Now it's doing the same thing. I replaced the 32x-Genesis connector cable, I replaced the Genesis, I replaced the 32x..Nothing is working.
What can I do to make this work?

I am not sure exactly what would cause this, but everything I have read points to a loose ribbon cable in the 32X. There used to be tutorials online but I can't find them today.

I had this same problem years ago so it does exist. Sometime later when hooking it back up again the video kicked on but was missing the foreground sprite layer so I could not see in-game characters in Chaotix, but the parallax background was going. I have a Genesis and 32x on hand, can give it another shot real quick!

It would appear I am missing a loop-back cable that goes Genesis OUT -> 32X IN, then RCA off the 32X output port. I may have one of these cables someplace, otherwise there's not much to it and one could possibly be found or made for cheap. Placing a normal Genesis game into my 32X and everything works nice so just need to find a cable.

If you don't mind me asking, what's the model number for the 32x you're having issues with? I have two that are one model number and work fine, and a 3rd one with a different model number that doesn't seem to work proper.

@Dr. Dib -- thanks for the tutorial!

@xelement5x -- where would I find the model number?

Also, by using a spare power cable, I was able to fix it again. However, like last time, I'm afraid it might be temporary. So the tutorial and all other help is appreciated.

After you pull it out of the system, on a sticker on the bottom of the base system.

It'll say either
Model: MK-84000
OR
Model: MK-84000A

My one that causes problems is the first, Model: MK-84000.

@Dr. Dib: Thanks for that link, I'm going to take a look at this on my old one as well.
