I'm not really seeing the point of selling VGA graded modern games.
Couldn't you just go to Best Buy or something if you wanted a sealed SMG2?
(I understand SMAS since it's a sold-out game, even if I don't agree with it.)

thanks sand! =) let me know if you want one

spar: yeah it is definitely true that you can get super mario galaxy at B&M stores but it is much harder to get it uncirculated. basically means it has never been put on the store shelf or handled directly. most of the time, you need to buy a whole case of games to get it as uncirculated.

additionally, it is very hard to get some of the higher grades when you pick up a copy in store. when i was looking for a copy of SMG in japan, i went through 40 copies looking for one without a surface scratch o_O i figured since i am paying full price, and all the games at the store were the same price but different condition, might as well get the mintiest one.

when you get it in a case, you don't have to worry as much as they haven't been handled.

So now we go from "sealed" to "sealed and maybe never handled by human hands"?

LOL :hmm:

I know I come off as an ass, but I'm sure others are thinking this too.

Good luck, for reals. If one of those Wii games sells for $250, I will be forced to change whatever pants I am wearing that day.

I already think the whole sealed thing is absurd. So I know what you mean and I'm right there with you.

There is no point. I personally think grading is a huge waste of money as do most collectors, but at some level, it at least provides guidance to newer sealed collectors about what they are buying in an older game (i.e. it's a legit seal and it meets certain condition standards). Grading brand new games which can easily be found factory sealed at every store in America is just a huge waste of money. The idea of being uncirculated is a whole new level of absurdity. Having been to many replication facilities over the years, I can state with certainty that many production lines still have human minimum wage employees stack sealed finished games in boxes. They also do things like reload the manual and insert stuffers, the disc spindles and the cases with bare hands. So, someone is still handling your "uncirculated" game and they generally don't wear gloves. Yes, I suppose if you buy a brick of Nintendo games and have VGA remove the tear strip and open them then grade them, it means one fewer person (i.e. the store employee) has handled them, but who cares? I'm sorry, but anyone who is paying VGA to grade in print common games is throwing money away and more importantly, anyone who is buying them is just a complete moron.

My only question is this:

Of said game came straight out of a goddamn shipping carton, and it's only a 90 (out of 100) then there is obviously no point in the grading anything because there is no set precedent of 'perfect'. Would one have to literally stand with a plastic case and catch a game off the shrinkwrap machine and seal it before even the faintest of oxygen permeated the outer side of the plastic?

Grading is a scam; anyone that trusts Video Game Authority is lol'able. They are not a Certified nor should they be trusted Third party, they are a company that profit off this and therefore offer their own "Self Certificaiton". Looking on the website alone, you can see the owner trying to penetrate numerous markets for trading cards, models, die cast toys and many more trying to make a quick buck.

They may be established, but established companies do not mean they are good.

Also, lol at this:

additionally this is uncirculated, meaning that they were graded right out of a sealed case... never handled or put on a store shelf!

If they were never handled how were they put in a case in the first place?

The great thing about places like VGC is that if you don't like the grade they give you....you just open it and send it in again and you'll get a different one, often higher. They've been doing this BS with comics for years and I know comic dealers that do that very thing. It's an absolute scam. Some of em run listings so you can see if yours is the highest graded one out there, etc. It's for the OCD "I MUST HAVE THE BEST" people. Cept since not everything is graded and the grades are not consistent...it's complete gibberish. Oh yeah...and they don't use archival protective materials to put the stuff in...which means down the road if you leave it bricked, the packaging itself will damage the item...

I just find it hilarious with the new games like super mario galaxy, DK returns, and mario all stars; all three pieces retailed at less then $200 new and still available (and will be available for another 2-3 years). For a small investment of $25 or whatever the supposed VGA charges to put in a box and send back to the owner is hilarious that he'd expect $100

(this is why the price is at $174.99, price to buy new is 49.99 + 25.00 VGA = $75, and then just sit back and try/attempt to get $100 profit, but ebay+pp charges 10% so 17.50 gone in fees; $50 for game (new retail), $25 to seal it: at the cost of $92 bucks)

What's even more hilarious is now they won't sell lol.

But people do it ALL the time with brand new comics....and for some reason people buy em.....it's not surprising it'd go to other collectibles.

I'd like to see someone get a game graded, then get the sealed case graded too. Not only will the game need to be in excellent shape, but the case used to slab it will have to be too.

Like is not strong enough sentiment for me, but I know what you mean. Uncirculated games... Jar Jar Binks just moved up a step in cool. Use VAG for all your grading needs. I endorse their service wholeheartedly. If I might suggest a slogan, "If it's not VAG, it's not worth fucking with!"

Graded slabs huh? Exponential scamming 101. Third party validation and evaluation is a value, but this stuff is too ridiculous to even take slightly seriously any more. Especially when it starts to unintentionally parody itself in action (uncirculated, not grading slabs). Might as well start using the term Uncircumcised to indicate the game is still in it's original wrapper. LOL

Edit: I hope you do well and make money on this while you can. My disdain is not targeted towards anyone specifically that sells graded games. You're just following an incentive to maximize your profit, and I can't fault you for it. The practice and trend in general on the other hand... Where's the beef?

I fully stand behind this idea in an effort to push this term into the lexicon of collectors.

thanks mega sd kirby,

sold a few through the forums. some collectors want to make sure they get the limited edition.

update: they will be reprinting with the same packaging. you'll be able to get it for a limited time (again). they did indicate this will be the last run:
