Greetings fellow gamers!! Awhile back my fiancee suprised me with an NES TOP Loader for a present. Great gift....little problem though...she bought it from Australia which has the PAL format I believe. I have since got another Toploader(USA) but I am just curious if there is anyway to mod or to get the Aussi Pal Top Loader to work??? Any ideas???

To my knowledge the top loader ONLY exists as NTSC. It wasn't sold in Europe for definite. Have you actually tried the one she bought from Australia to check it?

There was a PAL top loader sold in Australia, the video output is in PAL format. The power adapter looks different compared to the US version so it's usually easy to spot the difference.

As to using it on an NTSC TV, maybe a signal converter would work if you can find one for RF. I've seen converters for AV but I'm not sure about RF. I'm not sure about the power supply though, Australia uses 220-240 volts. Maybe you could use a US NES adapter with it.

Supplying power to it should not be a problem. Any 110V wall wart that outputs what is specified on the console will work. However, modding it with a 50/60hz switch will be quite an adventure since the output signal is hard coded on the PPU. There is some more information here (http://nfggames.com/forum2/index.php?PHPSESSID=rjr7ln626bidlnie3kkpuilbn3&topic=286.msg20793#msg20793) if you're interested.

Yeah Australia had the Top Loader, you can disable region lock out on it iirc and then you can play most NTSC games on it without any issues, although as stated above the video output will still be pal, assuming you have a compatible TV then its worth doing, if not then its probably not.

PS. they still fetch a bit on ebay.com.au if you ever wanted to flog it off.

Well, colour me enlightened then... I didn't realise there was a PAL top loader. Pity it's still only RF out.

these are quite high in demand AND price, so you got yourself a nice gift there :)
I think you can easily sell it for a good price, get a NTSC toploader and still have some cash left
