So I recently got a radeon 4890 graphics card and pretty much every one of my emulators run wonderfully now.

My question is, would there be a way to send the picture/audio from my PC to my CRT and play upscaled ps1 games that way? I know there are some VGA adapters out there but haven't found one that ends in s-video with audio jacks. PS1 games are extremely low resolution & I would love to play some one my Ps1 games with scanlines on an old tv if possible.

If I'm looking at it correctly, it has S-Video out already. And then for audio you could use something like this http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3839119 (Perhaps too expensive, but you get the idea).

I used to do it all the time with emulators :)

Yes, it did come with S-video but what use would that be without audio too right? I'm looking into the radioshack link right now but would like a bit more feedback before I make a decision.

Thanks in advance.

The audio portion is easy from your soundcards Speaker/Headphones/Line out. All you need is a 1/8 to RCA connector. http://www.amazon.com/Hosa-CMR210-Stereo-Inch-Dual/dp/B000068O3B/ref=sr_1_6?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1298174425&sr=1-6

And yes they are found at Radioshack : http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3452165

They are also called 3.5mm to Phono wires.

If you are going to output the picture via S-Video you will get a 480i picture which looks like crap for old games. I think they are ways to force the S-Video picture to be 240p which should be great for old games.

Or find a Tube VGA monitor that supports 240p, but good luck with that.

Revisiting the same problem. I now have a Frozr ii as my graphics card so it doesn't have s-video output anymore.

In comes this thing, it's a HDMI to Composite/S-video adapter that claims to take digital and turn it to a number of analog resolutions.

What do you guys think? Would this let me play emulators on my old tv from my computer?

While a lot of people do output emu's from a computer to a TV.. it just seems like overkill to me.

It just seems 10x easier to play emulators on an Xbox1 which of course can easily plug into any tv you have via RF or Composite. And it's a lot more portable too.

On the other hand, of course the PC just has a larger amount of current emulators. But just saying...

Original xbox emulators don't let me use my wireless PS3 controller :)

And honestly, there's just so many more options if I were to use epsxe ( ps1 ), or nulldc ( dreamcast ) as my emulators of choice. Higher resolutions, anti aliasing, filters, etc.

More options? There is no Dreamcast emulator for the Xbox 1. :)

As I said above of course there's a ton more (and current) emulators for the PC that we're all familiar with and use. And outputing a video signal to a tv, sd or not, is something many do. But for many basic emulators (NES/Genny/GB/etc.) an xbox 1 is really handy to have. But of course you're never going to have a Sega Saturn emulator running on it, nor the controller options available. But then again an Xbox 1 costs about 20 bucks today. :p

You can get a $30-50 graphics card from Newegg that has s-video out. I don't know if it is possible to have two different graphics cards though.

It should be possible to have two graphics cards in one computer, many people do this to run multiple monitors. But that's no guarantee that all cards will work in the same system with all other cards.

There also the issue that if he's depending on his current video card to help his performance in the emulators (particularly on more recent system emulators like PSX or later) that would be completely lost when playing them through a secondary card. This may or may not be a huge problem when trying to output to a TV at a low resolution, I don't know, but it's something to be aware of.

Yes that little adapter box will work for you. Your graphics card has an HDMI out which carries both audio and video. That little box will should downscale your image to 720x480 using the S-Video out port.

Make sure to help the box with the signal thou by switching your computers resolution to 640x480 or 800x600.

Now if you have component on your TV, then you could get a HDMI to Component convertor to get the best possible signal out of your computer. If you do go that route thou be sure again to set your resolution to 640x480 or 800x600 for best results.

Hi

I am looking to connect my laptop to a crt tv for retro gaming using console emulators and mame.

Ive read through some information on various sites and im not sure what exactly it is i would need to get to to work properly.

I have a laptop with sli nvidia gpu's.

I understand i would to use soft 15khz to get my gpu's to output the correct low res, would this work ok with sli do you know?

I have a hdmi port and a mini display port, which of these would be best to use?

I take it I would need a cable like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Premium-HDMI-Cable-Gold-Metre-Black/dp/B000GDI6FC

and then connect it to the crt using this http://arcadeforge.net/UMSA/UMSA-Ultimate-SCART-Adapter::57.html?MODsid=dcb50aecdcd57a8ad86da216fc 93d4c1

Or could i bipass using the UMSA and use a straight hdmi to scart converter?

Thanks
