Just turned on my chipped v12 slim PS2 for the first time since November to play some DDR last night and I couldn't get any discs to play. The power turns on but does nothing when a disc is in the drive. It just goes to the Browser screen and only the memory cards are displayed, no discs.

I remember seeing the PS2's power light on a few months ago...must have turned it on by accident and left it powered on overnight, so I think that might have something to do with why it's working now.

Don't know anything about repairing PS2's but from what I've read, it could be anything from a broken drive to a bad fuse. Any ideas? I've got a soldered DMS4 Pro chip inside, so I'd really like to get this fixed if possible instead of buying a new one and getting it re-modded.

What's the model number of your system? If you have a 70011/70012, you may have a burnout if you don't have a laserfix installed.

I don't remember the model number offhand. All I know is that it's one of the early slim models (a v12). I know those had laser issues but the guy who I bought it from said he did the romeo laser mod or whatever it was called.

The romeo mod was for the v9/v10 models. For the v12, there were several to choose from. The ones that only used passive components like resistors and/or diodes only (i.e. summ0ne fix) didn't work that well. The fixes like the comsoft or neofix that used an IC to monitor the voltage did a better job. If you have the tools, open up your system and take a picture of the mod work and see what kind of fix was done.
