View Full Version : Shipping receipts are good proof that you have shipped your items, right?

I have a buyer on ebay who is thinking of attempting an item not received claim. But I have the shipping receipt which shows the date and time the games were shipped out, which also includes their zip code, and the zip codes of other buyers who got games sent out to them that day. In my ebay account, I marked all three items as shipped that day as well, so an ebay employee who works with claims should be able to see that action as well correct?.

Do you think I am pretty safe as far as proof goes in not being held liable for package tardiness or loss? Do I have all my bases covered, or do you you think I will fall to "all your bases are belong to us?"

My receipt is up on photobucket and I shared the link with the buyer who has not reacted to this yet.

Anyone else had any similar problems? What was the outcome?

Did you get tracking/delivery confirmation? If you can prove that the games got to the buyer you are fine. Otherwise you are up shit creek without a paddle. Paypal requires something more solid than a receipt in a item not received case, mostly because the receipt only proves the item was sent, it has no bearing on whether the item was actually received unless of course you have that delivery confirmation.

That makes no sense because it is only the seller's responsibility to ship the item, not carry it. Maybe if it fails I can go after USPS for it. File a complaint about / sue them. The buyer did not pay for tracking or ask for it.

It doesn't matter.

Even if the buyer did not pay for tracking, it is always good to put it in, to avoid situations like these. The same with insurance: the buyer doesn't need to ask for it, specially since insurance protects the seller, not the buyer. The same can be said, in a way, for Delivery Confirmation.

You can file a complaint with the USPS to see if they can investigate the situation for you.

As much as it hurts, you are screwed on this one. Without any evidence that the buyer received it, Ebay WILL side with the buyer and return his money back, even if you have proof that you sent it.

Take this as a learning lesson: NEVER ship items you can't track and prove delivery on.

I recommend printing shipping labels online, as shipping sometimes is cheaper (specially on Priority Mail packages) and services like Delivery Confirmation are either extremely cheap ($0.19 for non Priority Mail packages, and FREE with Priority Mail), so there really is no excuse to not using it. Plus it protects you from situations like these.

Here is a topic that might help you:

Yeah, you have to get that delivery or better yet, signature conformation. If you don't, and they file a claim, you are screwed. Its tough not getting screwed as the seller, but without tracking, you're gonna lose the dispute.

What is really paiful is that I will have to pay back $46. Money I can't afford right now. My ebay account may end up being temporarily closed by the time I can afford to pay it unless a relative feels sorry for me and gives me a gift.

All I know is that if I agree to do this, the buyer better not leave me negative feedback. If they do I don't know what I will do out of rage.

Sometimes things can get dicey on the receiving end too. I won an auction a few days back for a laserdisc set that cost me just under $60 with shipping.

I got the package yesterday (with delivery confirmation) and a note written on it received with no contents (dated 2/19.) No initals but I am guessing the delivery driver wrote it. The box used was a box normally used for 1 or 2 discs - the set must have been in there pretty tightly - which put pressure on the seams - this type of box has perforations along the seams and one of the perforations gave out. I have to call my post office Tuesday and see what they do with any loose stuff that comes in with shipments (assuming it was lost at the last leg of getting to the Denver area). I have been in touch with the seller and it is clear he is washing his hands of it (if at all possible). I have to admit this an odd one but I don't want to particularly take it in the shorts for something I had no control over - if the post office can't help me (which is very likely given an earlier experience I had - they once lost a package coming to me with tracking - it just vanished off the radar and they couldn't be bothered to do anything except say that ithappened) I don't see much choice other than to file a claim with paypal/ebay and see what happens.

Unfortunately, be prepared for this as well. I've seen many cases in which the seller gives a full refund, is extra nice and apologizes, yet the buyer STILL negs the seller and gives low DSR's. It's almost certain that it will happen. However, there have been times in which a buyer has NOT negged...I hope this is the case.

Though I hope the buyer contacts you indicating he/she did get the package.

I will be honest with you: if I did not get the item I purchased and I had to go through Paypal to get my money back...well, you know what I would do after the refund. If the seller refunds me prior to me opening a claim, then I give positive feedback, because I did not have to resort to a claim.

Best of luck, and I hope everything turns out well in the end.

I actually just started printing my own labels specifically for the sake of having tracking on all my listings. I don't think i've ever won a paypal dispute as a seller.

Yeah it's too late as they already opened the claim but paypal won't do anything about it till March 2nd. So until then if they receive the item they better tell me. Otherwise they are walking away with a free loose copy of Tails Adventure for Game Gear which seems all the rage these days. I'm working on a deal for a sealed copy myself.

I relisted a few items cheaper in hopes of getting the funds back quickly to pay it off and start fresh with a new value village trip to resupply my sales stock. When all you have is a part time job, gotta try and find a way to supplement it if you want to collect video games.

To lose all your profit for the month on one sale is really a downer. I guess anything now that sells for over $10 gets tracking. My uncle is right, I need to learn to buy and sell stuff that is more valuable to profit from, like jewelry on sale from pawn shops.
