Some original content would be nice. Ripped pictures from other, better sites are not original content. A lot of bad links too.

There is original content on there.... the site has only been up for a month.

Thanks for your comments.

It froze up my internet explorer :hmm:

Not bad, its a good start. I also couldn't get many of the links to work and the Nintendo on top needs to have its light, power switch, and reset switch moved farther left. :-D

A good start. but needs alot of work

A few things I'd recommend.

1) A spell-checker. The grammar on the 2 pieces I read were pretty bad too, you may need an editor in general.

2) There are links all over the place that lead to nowhere.

3) Sometimes the graphics on the nav-bar on the left completely disappear and I can't see where I'm about to click.

4) My browser completely locked up on two occasions. I can't give you more hints because I don't have time to keep re-starting it.

Yeah whatever you reckon.......

Ummm, if you're gonna ask for input, and someone gives you some constructive feedback, I wouldn't get all out of joint about it.

Otherwise, why ask in the first place.

Some of the more harsh stuff, I can see you having a problem with the tone, but DP's post wasn't that.

Its your call, but I'd follow alot of the advice you've received here.
After all, you want people to visit your site right?

Good luck.

Bleh. Take the site down and don't relaunch it until you really have something to contribute to the NES community. Everyone knows Action 52 is rare. Everyone also knows Gauntlet is NOT rare. Nice collection, by the way.

Yashiro's right. Your site does nothing to further my knowledge in the NES. Everything I see at your site, I've seen elsewhere previously. Plus, the site's navigation is poor (too many dead links), and the reviews you've posted can hardly even be considered a summary. :hmm:

I will say, though, that I do like the page layouts and menu graphics.

If you're gonna go around asking people to critique your site, make sure it's done first. :/

When I go to the "accessories" page, after I get there every single link on the left leads back to accessories. Same with the extra's page.

Seriously, if you're going to use someone else's NES rarity list, you might want to do what they say and LEAVE IT INTACT

Three comments.

1. The web is free to do with as people wish. However, one more amateur site with outdated, inaccurate information is not one that will get a lot of visitors. I'm sorry, but Tengen games are not rare what-so-ever.

People will look to sites for sources of accurate information about that particular console or library, and if you don't know what you are talking about, you shouldn't be too shocked to see that people don't return after the first visit.

2. I believe that your encouragement of us to visit your site is based on needing some validation to the content, layout, and overal feel of the site. There are many many problems, only some of which have been touched on here. Yet, by your own admittance, you have acknowledged that the site isn't finished at this time. Also, you shouldn't be too defensive about criticism - you literally asked for it.

3. Finally - if I have to see one more reference to Mike Etler's OUTDATED rarity listing, I swear I'm going to run amok in Town Square. Mike's list was generated more than 5 years ago, and has little to no bearing on the current market situation of NES games.

People may disagree with me on this point, but take a good look at some of those ratings. I appreciate that Mike took the time, and it's a good reference point to start collecting and to help educate people with what the library has to offer, but it's truly outdated.

Bottom line, if you don't know enough or have enough of the games to generate your own content, pictures, etc. you should do what most of us do - look for those sites who can.

Hell - Darth Vader or Portnoyd could generate enough content and pics to make a great NES site. That's why I ask them questions, and not visit poorly designed sites like that one.

Amen, brother! I'm surprised people still use that thing. Even back in the day, I though allot of the listings on there were questionable. Stadium Events a "B" rarity my ass!

If it's directly linked from the home page, then don't you think it kinda is a main page? Ok, if you knew about them, why not fix them before you solicited help here? You took the time to post so why not take the time to update the links? It really doesn't take that long and if you're using templates a small site like yours should take no time to update.

Atleast before I ask for help here I'm making sure everying on my site is moderately working the way it's supposed to. I don't care if Etler's list is outdated or out of whack, my problems lies with the fact that he chopped it up, when Etler specifically said to leave it intact. I hate fucking plagerists.

In defense of Mike, when he was doing the list, he saw Stadium Events more than the higher rated games. He's never seen the Panesians through his store, but he had seen Stadium Events. Mike's list mutated into the DP list btw, so it "technically" is still being updated. ;)

Me too. They always copy someone else's sexual techniques.

Anyway, you've got a decent design (or a decent header, at least), but the site has too many problems to be interesting or useful. As others have suggested, get someone to edit your writing, and try to come up with a unique perspective on the NES. There are already several excellent NES-related resources out there, so unless you have a new look at the console, your site isn't going to do much good.

I dunno. Maybe you could turn your site into an intentional parody of game misinformation. "OMG TENGAN TETIRS IS TEH RARE" and all that.

Kim Possible

no, you actually meant it as an ADVERB, you just put it in a non-traditional spot. The joke is made because it appears to be an adjective when you meant it to be an adverb. (at least I think). Because as an adjective the joke works (ie "fucking plagarist" as in someone who steals fucking techniques). I suppose it COULD be used an adjective in the non-literal sense of "fucking" where "fucking" is merely a sloppy way of expressing emphasized emotion. :)

(For my next trick I'll suck all the fun out of your favorite "yo' momma" jokes! ;) :D )

You "found" the background? You make it sound as if it had made its own way to your site. The mere fact that the biggest reaction to your site so far is this --

-- should encourage you to seek other outlets into which you can channel your love of videogaming. Build a Room of Doom. Find all the thrifts within 20 miles of your home. Something else. Anything else.

You tried to reason with him? That must have been an interesting email. "Don't you understand that when I steal your background, it's a loving tribute to your site, not that I'm a talentless fanboy adding another pile of detritus to the Internet?"

Removing a stolen background isn't going to make your site any better; the visuals are the only thing your site has going for it. You've ignored all of the excellent suggestions made in this thread, and haven't even commented on them. Are you going to seek out an editor to make your text at least bearable, if not interesting or informative? Are you going to stop lifting graphics from other sites? You haven't said.

I'm not trying to cause trouble, just giving you the feedback you requested. Of course, you didn't really want feedback, just confirmation that your efforts aren't in vain -- which, unfortunately, they are.

You don't need the validation of others to enjoy your hobby, which I why I suggest you drop the site. It's immediately apparent that you will always be a terrible writer, which is not meant to insult you. I'm a terrible volleyball player, and I always will be, and I take no offense when others point that out. (I do get a little peeved when they start laughing, though.)

The fact that you have a passion for the NES is great.
I guess what everyone is saying, is that you should take that passion and channel it into creating some original content for your site.
If you take pre-existing images, reviews and rarities from other sites, it actually shows a lack of passion. As if you didn't care enough to create your own material.

Now I'm not of the opinion as some who have posted here are, that you need a site that adds something the the NES scene.
Not every website needs to be a museum or an educational one.

Some times "shrine" type websites are a lot of fun to visit.

Frankly at this juncture it would be tough to "add" something to the scene, because with the number of excellent NES sites out there, its all been done already.

But don't let that dissuade you from creating a site that expresses how you feel about the NES.
Just make sure the feelings and ideas you are expressing are your own.

Good luck.

In all sincerety, I don't care what you do.

But let's be honest - you didn't start this post for ANY other reason but to try and bring other gaming fans to your site.

Your responses clearly indicate that you aren't looking for suggestions or professional critique.

Accusing Zack of starting trouble? Let's get one thing clear. You have 14 posts. At least 7 or 8 of those are from this one thread.

Let me remind you that YOU came to this forum, and posted here. It is you who have started the off-emotional banter.

If you truly don't care what we think of your site, and will continue to run it regardless of the suggestions made in this thread, my suggestion to you is that you stick to your own forums on your own site, and stop wasting our time.

There are 10,000 dumbass NES sites out there, yours is one of them, do everyone a favor, shut it down.

Just because you removed copied material dosent't make you any better in anyones eyes, the fact is that it was copied in the first place. Your website is shitty, a waste of time, and a waste of webspace.
