Donkey Kong Country 2 sprite missing.

I bought a DKC2 off ebay which was listed as working. When I got the cart I loaded it into my snes and diddy's sprite doesn't appear in the overworld.

When I got it there was a save file already on the cart, but when I tried loading it the game crashed and the save file disappeared. Could this be as simple as replacing the battery or is there more to it? I'll likely get a refund from the seller but I would rather keep it and see if it can be repaired.

Replacoing the battery should do nothing. To my knowledge, the battery is there just to hold saves.

Try getting some rubbing alcohol and cleaning the cartridge contacts. Might just be really dirty. ( I use Q tips )

I've just cleaned it, still no overworld sprite.

I think I'll just get a refund.
