I have three working NES, but only two regular controllers, and I was wondering if anybody has tried buying some of these so called "new" controllers off of ebay. They usually come in pairs, and in the picture they resemble officially licensed original NES controllers with all of the right markings, but I don't know how this can be at those prices. I'm assuming they're pretty decent reproductions or "knock offs", but I was wondering if anyone from this site has tried to purchase some or has any experience or knowledge in the matter they'd like to share.

This may belong in technical/restoration.

I havent tried thoes ones, but there missing the red nintendo over the buttons.
A buddy of mine thought he was buying legit snes controllers once that even came in a box with mario and yoshi on the box.... they were a total let down. The buttons felt chincy and the d pad was spongey. I think he told me the cord was shorter too but i cant remember 100%.

I myself bought some snes controlers that were used but real. Out of the three , two were ok and one got used for parts as it was just worn to hell. Sometimes its better to buy things in person if you can.

Agreed, but in my experience a lot of local used game stores aren't very willing to sell NES/SNES/N64 controllers individually because they like to package them with systems (annoying). At the price of about $11 for 2 (including shipping) I think the ones from ebay would be a good buy if they felt and played authentically. Buttons feeling chincy and spongy turns me off, though.

Be careful. I have had some bad experiences with some of these controllers. I know Tomee made a controller like these, but the D-pad down was terrible.

I wouldn't buy new production NES controllers if my life depended on it. They'll all be awful imitations. There of course is a slight chance that these controllers you linked to somehow break the trend, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Just buy a couple original Nintendo-brand ones, used of course. I think you should be able to find them on ebay for about the same price as those crappy fake new ones.

I've tried that type as well. Someone bought me a "new" SNES controller a couple years back, packed in a half-decent box with all the logos. Much shorter cord, and the buttons were very stiff and hard to use. Come to think of it, that's much like the other (S)NES lookalike controllers I've used, and the one linked looks to be similar.

I agree, buy some original controllers, but make sure they work 100% perfectly.

If you want, I have 1 NES Controller that is still new in the box. Its a real one. Came in a 2-pack, never needed the second one. I think real unused NES Contollers go for around $60.00 Each

If you need original NES controllers, I've stumbled recently onto a ton of them. The are in varying conditions, although each one would be sold as tested/working. PM if you are interested.

I've seen those and they might actually be legit. Around the time that Nintendo started making the slim SNES they changed the way they made controllers, they started becoming cheap and felt very poor. Just check the controllers that came with the slim SNES, they have "Nintendo" physically stamped into the plastic instead of printed onto it in black writting. The controllers that came in that box you're describing have "Nintendo" stamped onto them, at least all of the ones I've seen are like that.

I have the SNES mini controllers and the fake ones mentioned before, and the SNES mini controllers are way better than the fake ones. The fake ones come in a box that copies the legit box, but uses a lower quality cardboard and ink, so it looks off. Also, the SNES mini controller's color looks very similar to the originals, whereas the fake ones have different shades of gray plastic.
