If you had to choose between the snes or nes which would you go with?

It's a really hard choice, but thinking about it, I think the SNES might have a small edge over the NES.
Also. This restaurant is awesome just because of the name.

SNES, because I can play some NES conversions, and I can cheat and use a Super 8 device on it to play NES as well.

SNES hands down for me. I always say, as awesome as the NES is, the Super Nintendo came along and did just that... made things "super." It took everything good about the NES and multiplied it by 10.

it'd would've been more appropriate to ask: snes or genesis?

Gotta go SNES. I love my NES, I have more games for it than any other system by far, but my favorite games are on SNES. A Link to the Past, Super Mario World, Final Fantasy VI, Super Metroid, etc.

Got to go SNES because it was my first system I ever had, and some of my fondest memories are of playing the crap put of it.

Yeah, that was a fun game. Kind of like shotput, but grosser.

This is a tough one... but I gotta go with NES. The SNES wins hands down in the RPG department, but I can't over look classics like Mega Mans / Lolos / and Contra among others.

This is a hard one for me, but after some consideration I'd probably say SNES.
I was born in '83, so I grew up with the NES and had a lot of fond memories of it--and to this day, I own more games for it than any other console.
But:
1) My fondest memories are of the SNES
2) I come back to the SNES more than any other console
3) Almost all my favorite games--games I can play again and again without getting bored--are on the SNES.
So if I was forced to chose, I'd ditch the 8-bit and go with the 16.

I'm going to go with NES. There was such a great variety of games in every genre. More arcade ports, lots of cool computer ports, lots of great Nintendo franchises. I just like the style of 8-bit games. While the SNES is certainly one of my favorite consoles of all time, if I had to pick one I'd go NES. More variety.

I'm going with NES and Tacos.
NES since its got a great library of arcade ports and tacos because they're yummy.

It was a tie between SNES and tacos for me. I'm not a huge NES fan at all.

SNES by far. While I grew up with NES and probably played it the most, the SNES just had better games to me. RPGs really evolved after the limits of the NES era. Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy III/VI are probably #1 and #2 on my top games list.
I picked NES, but wouldn't mind a taco. While I love the SNES and played the hell out of it, Genesis will always be my 16-bit system of choice. And NES is my 8-bit system of choice.

I'll go with the SNES. Tough call against the NES, though...but I guess the SNES is an improvementover its older brother. That, and I never ate a taco.

I'm gonna have to go with tacos with the NES as a close second choice.

Both of them, a Mega Drive, and 47 tacos.

The SNES is great, but I'll choose NES because it's what I had in the 80s/90s, and I didn't play video games by the time the SNES was a mandatory Toys R Us purchase in 1992. I recently began my collection with the NES because it's more affordable, it has many classic games, and most of the good SNES games are expensive collector's items now. So the NES because it's what I had, and it's currently easier to collect for. Also, I got the Genesis early 1990, about two years before the SNES craze, and it's games are currently much more affordable too. I don't think it's fair to compare the SNES to the Genesis since it was Nintendo's delayed response to the Genesis. So the comparison is like comparing the Genesis to the NES.

Super Nintendo. I never owned an NES when I was younger, having gone from Atari 5200 straight to the TG16, then Genesis.

SNES. Not only over the NES, but over every other home console except maybe PS2.....maybe.......have to think on that one....

SNES - it's my favorite system from my favorite era in console gaming. The games, the graphics, THE MUSIC, I just love it.

I had (vegetarian) tacos for dinner last night, so in the interest of fairness I waited a while to cast my vote.
I'm going with the SNES. As much as I love the NES, I just get more out of the SNES platform. Gems like Super Metroid, Super Mario World, and Legend of the Mystical Ninja trump practically all of my favorite NES titles. Plus, I can always cheat and use an add-on to play NES games, and then there's the Super Game Boy as well.

Taco
Nes
Snes
But why choose 1. I pick all 3 and waaay more.

I went with the SNES because of the overall increase of depth in its games. Using converters to play NES and Game Boy is awesome as it allows you to use that smoothed out controller of the SNES, and that expands the library a lot. But even with SNES games vs. NES games, there may be less I had or know about on SNES than NES but the games have much more depth to them so they occupy more of my time.
I wonder what would win in a NES vs. Game Boy thread here.

Snes for me too just about..

NES. The SNES is awesome, but the NES had hundreds of games that kick ass and the hardware is amazing.
The question is ambiguous.
Do you mean which system would I collect? Which system I would want to be locked in a room with, having every game at my fingertips? Which system is better overall?
Overall I prefer to collect and play NES, as the games are easier to acquire, cheaper, and provide great gameplay. I do, however, feel that the SNES is the best overall console system in existence. It was the perfect blend of hardware capabilities and pure gameplay bliss.

NES hands down! Most of the great SNES games had their origins on the NES. Most of those were better on the NES anyway.
As far as 16-bit gaming goes... Genesis owns the SNES. Spoken like a true fanboy.

Definitely the Nes. It had much better games imo. The Snes era was dominated by my Genesis so they didn't stand much of a chance in my eyes.

The NES wins easily for me as it was the pinnacle of the action platformer game which is my favorite genre.

Except when it comes to RPGs, I'd say NES. It has some of my favorite action-platformers on it and a lot of series got their start there.

Quoted for truth! Though I do have to give the SMS an edge over the NES though, simply because of Phantasy Star.
For Nintendo, I rank them like this:
Nintendo 64
GameCube
NES
Super Famicom
Wii

I would have to go with the SNES. I consider the two libraries relatively close in gameplay, but the SNES made better "16-bit" Arcade conversions.
