View Full Version : Big bulky boxes... yuck! :((

Anyone else hate how a lot of games (and other media) come in boxes that are just too dang BIG?!

I'm talking about Saturn and Sega CD cases especially. Or those early 90 PC titles (what were they thinking?!)

Hell, i've never even understood (or liked) the standard CD jewel case, myself. I'd much prefer a nice hard paper (posterboard) slip/jacket like LPs and laserdiscs had. Sure, you can't see the label on the side to know what game/album it is when it's on a shelf, but...

Why?!

Surprisingly, this thread is not about vaginas.
I feel better knowing I wasn't the only one who thought vagina's when I read the title.

Why?!
Because most of us like proper cases for our games. Cardboard sleeves are garbage and end up leaving scratches on the CD most of the time. Not to mention that a jewel case is better at protecting the CD and can take a decent beating. Plus jewel cases can be replaced unlike cardboard sleeves.

How would a cardboard sleeve scratch a CD?

For instance, I've mailed friends CDs thru the mail across the world (to Finland and elsewhere, from America) and I use only one or two sheets of printer paper and some Scotch tape.

The constant removing of the disc can eventual leave some tiny scratches on the back of the disc. Why do you think that LP's and LD's had paper/plastic sleeves covering them while in the cardboard sleeves?

I don't know. I don't have much experience with them. But CDs could also have paper sleeves, if they are needed.

Because a hard paper jacket, nice as it may be, won't protect your "jewels" as much as the plastic jewel cases from the yucky big bulky boxes.

But doesn't it protect it enough...?

Why were they used for laserdiscs and LPs?

And the last thing you want is your jewels all up in some nasty bulky box.

Never heard vaginas referred to as boxes. Is this a generational thing?

ehh I've been calling vaginas pussies or vagina since I was 7... just never heard straight up "box" but usually snatch, twat, etc.

Maybe I have heard it, but just forgot. Anyway, what do ya'll do with really big boxes, like the oversized ones from the PC's heyday (early 90s)? I remember them being really big.

I tend to just buy carts and CDs alone when I get old games, but if I do get a box I wonder whether I should keep it for re-sale value or just throw it in the trash. Maybe collectors flatten them out and put them somewhere?

Good God, man!
What do we do with game boxes? We keep the game in them and put them on a shelf somewhere! Flatten them out? THROW THEM AWAY?! I don't even have words...

Maybe it was a philosophical question? I liken this to when people ask me, "What's good, yo?" and I'm like... are you asking me about the concept of good versus evil, or...?

I know big boxes puts me in a giggly mood.

In all seriousness though if you're just gonna throw away game boxes you should offer up to people on here. That way you'd make a couple bucks and other people could then get use out of the stuff.

Now let's get back to some big ol' box action.

I am ashamed I did not think of vaginas upon entering this thread.

PC boxes were too big maybe. But Sega CD, Saturn, and Playstation long boxes... I liked em -- even if they were prone to cracking (or completely falling apart, in regards to the cardboard PSX ones).

How come don't you like them, just because they take up space? Then download teh romz, takes up zero physical space, problem solved.

When it comes to displaying, I find the sega cd and especially the saturn to be some of the most aesthetically pleasing art/box styles in classic gaming.

The thread made me think of big asses instead of vaginas. I feel ashamed.
FIVE IN THE POO.
To me, if a DVD holder was added to the design of the Sega CD type of cases and the front part was changed to use an improved tab system, it'd be the perfect case. The SCD cases just have a lot of things that make them great- ample room for two discs, extra room for accessories (e.g., memory cards), and the factor that they tower over other cases makes them stand out better. Saying the SCD case is horrible is an unproven thing, IMO.

Having worked at a video store in the past during the VHS era, the bigger boxes had more photos from the movie. More tits and ass=more sales. When I worked there, pornos in the big boxes were $10 and some guys would buy 12 at a time spending a good hour staring at all the boxes (on the boxes).

That place sold/rented a shitload of porn. The porno room had a sales table that was 3' x 8' and stacked 10 high across the top with porn and there were guys who would go through the whole table to see every box and decide whether to buy it. And the table had to be refilled every day when a new shipment arrived.

Like it or not, that shit sells.

Why would vaginas or butts be called boxes? I can see tunnels or caves or something but a box is something you put something in from above, like you'd have to be fucking her when she's laying back on her neck and her legs are spread and you're over her horizontally cause when you put something into a box you put it in from above and then you close a lid on it, which vaginas don't really have.

Also you carry boxes around because that's the point of boxes (the difference between them and shelves).

Also the Sega CD and Saturn case idea was stupid because they're just wasted space. Yeah that's why I hate them which is what I said in the first post. The extra space wasn't used to store other CDs or devices, it was just empty air for the disc to come loose in and slide around in. That's why it had to come packed with that foam insert thing.

It was just a really dumb idea. Even the instruction manual didn't fit in well. This place is dumb too, Digital Press. I don't really like video game fans much. They are stupid people in general.

On second thought I think they probably went with the big jewel case idea because they wanted to fill up shelf space more like VHS tapes at Blockbuster . Using CD jewel cases would have made them look too small perhaps but then Holy Playstation came in and stomped their ass to smithereens and so that basically settles that.

The whole phrase "junk in the trunk" is really stupid too.

Also "junk" in general to refer to testes/balls. Why would you call your reproductive organ junk?

I'd say take the game out of the box (as well as stuff like manuals or maps) and then put the box on the shelf.
Unless you're talking about sealed games?

I think I'll laugh my ass off now.

I don't know, I always liked the bigger Saturn/Sega CD boxes. Yeah, the hinges were kind of fragile, but what I loved was having a nice big manual especially when companies like Working Designs put their hearts into it and filled the manual with beautiful artwork :) I'm divided on the original Playstation long boxes (not the ones that used the Saturn.Sega CD cases). I liked the ones that had the ridges on the left side but, just like the import Saturn PAL cases I have, the cardboard can be easily damaged and THOSE can not easily be switched with a new case......

I honestly prefer my games to be with the original packaging, no matter how much space it might potentially end up taking up. Yet I'm sure that's just me.
