Hi, folks. I've found another Japanese children's book in the library that details the process of how a Nintendo game is made. This time it's Dragon Quest VI on the Super Famicom. Check it out!

(The first book I found dealt similarly with SMB3, so I recommend that too: http://www.chrismcovell.com/secret/weekly/Stars_of_the_Family_Computer.html )

Awesome. :) I loved the SMB3 one, and this is great too. Excellent work on the translations and scans.

Thanks for doing the scans. Do you scan these at higher res and downsize them for web?

Lemme know if you ever want to outsource your image editing for the comics from stuff like this, I run a little comic trans group and we mainly do obscure videogame stuff, I bet you have a lot of neat things kicking around. Could be a fun joint project.

Thanks for this.

It's great to read about this game and seeing the pictures. I love their work ethic and everyone seems thin and serious about working. Their shirts are all tucked in.

I think there is some disagreement about whether The Black Onyx influenced RPGs in Japan (Falcom's stuff?) or if it was the American trade show that Yuji Horii went to in 1983 where he saw Wizardry that influenced him, or what.

Here's the pop song from the 60s that Sugiyama is said to have written:

Amazing stuff, Chris!

I found more Dragon Quest VI prototype screens from 1994.
